I'm about to install some new Speed Queen Washers in my apartment Laundry Rooms. I'm thinking of raising the cost on the Washing machines. The dryers can be adjusted by time per load.

What do you charge per wash and dry for the Top Loader Washers?

Thank You for any input. Robert --47.155.xx.xxx

See what the local laundromats charge and make it less. I am pretty sure the huge washers around here charge $8 to wash. As long as you keep it less, you're good. When I had them I charged a dollar and the laundromat charged $3. --108.24.xx.xx

I suspect that it varies by location. What I would do would be to go around to a couple of the close by laundromats and see what they are charging. Then charge just a slight bit less than they are charging.

I stay out of laundromats but I do know that the cost of doing laundry has gotten quite high. High cost on top of it being a huge pain to use a laundromat, so it shouldn't be difficult to set your rates to attract your tenants to use the machines in the building while still getting the max possible for yourself.

The only draw to a laundromat is that you can do all of your loads at the same time and get it over with. So that is your only competition and wouldn't be difficult to overcome that convenience as a draw.

I have several sets of Whirlpool top loading washers & electric dryers. I went with these instead of something like SpeedQueen because mine don't even come close to being used as much as those in a regular laundromat. I currently charge $2.00 for a wash & $2.00 for drying which I believe is about 20-25 minutes. --71.174.xxx.xx

I've never had any but I would also check prices within a specific radius of the property. For my city properties, that would only need to be five or six block radius and they'd have two or three options.

Then, I'd charge maybe a dollar more. For the tenants, the convenience of being on property and not needing to get into the car. Friends and relatives not bringing their laundry over because it's cheaper than the public places. --72.70.xxx.xxx

We keep them cheap. $1.75. The idea here really isn’t to make money off of the laundry. Many apartments here don’t come with washers and dryers or even hookups because the water usage fees are so high. Nobody charges the tenant separately for water. I don’t know why. When I advertised that water was not included it got me nothing but grief. The coin ops are an alternative. They cover their maintenance and usage , but their existence here isn’t to generate a huge profit. It gives our apartments an advantage because they are convenient. --75.133.xxx.xx

Mines are at $ 1.50 and that includes about an hour of drying time. Been like that for four years. I need to adjust. I have them in my rooming house. I pull $ 80-$100 a month out of them; more than enough to cover my water bill. It's a huge convenience for the tenants. --209.122.xx.xxx

Will cost more at first where a commercial front load washing machine will use 40 per cent less water along considerably less hot water. Even a used laundromat commercial front load washing machine will with stand the abuse in a laundromat environment. Found when a laundromat closes those heavy commercial machines last as industrial build quality. The heavy commercial gas clothes dryers run for a shorter period of time where everyone is in and out in less time. Natural gas clothes cost a lot less to operate along the clothes are dried in shorter period of time. Double $3, Triple $5 --99.236.xxx.xxx
