I have often thought about getting my permit to carry. but knock on wood, I don't feel the need. I think it is cause I screen so much and feel comfortable with the people that we rent too.
Now mind you, I know people can change on a dime, and I get that.
So... do you carry?

Yes i do.I never know where i will be,i can get a call mid day and end up in a bad area trying to buy a house so if i leave the house i carry a small 38,i dont expect to need it for any kind of distance so light weight as possible.I was in a basement years ago in a house i sold a guy who started yelling at me when i couldnt light his furnace and realized no gun and no phone i could have been killed down there and no one would know where i was so now if i get out of my truck i have pistol and phone, between the 2 i think i can get out of anywhere or any bad situation although the first thing i try to do is not get myself in a situation that i need it but you never know.Never needed it although one time i was thinking i might when a drug dealer thought i should rent to him because he had first month rent and security but i talked my way out of it --72.231.xxx.xxx |

One of the criteria for being allowed to carry here in NJ is being a landlord who collects rents back in 1997 when I got my permit. But they would not give me the permit to carry even though I met the criteria. There was a situation where I would have needed it but fortunately I detected that up front and didn't go there.
I carry pepper spray. I carry around the yard a branch saw. I have wasp and hornet spray squirts ten feet nearby.
Last Sunday there was a package of heroin again next to my sidewalk in the bushes. Fourth time but not in a couple years. So I made sure it was not dog poop in a little bag, called the police and they came and got it. I also reported a gray car circling to possibly pick it up and they sent some officers to circle the area and they picked up that person. I was filling bird feeders and saw the gray car and felt anger coming in my direction from it. At first I thought it was my neighbor who has a similar car and why would she be angry at me? But when it circled back I realize that was not her. I hope whoever is doing this does not continue this during spring and summer. It is threatening. Last time a few years ago I head someone say they should "pop" me, that means shoot, for being out in my garden. --108.24.xx.xx |

It is illegal here to carry handgun at all where can only carry to from firing range. Only police, security officials can carry a hand gun as there is gun control laws which are going to tightened. Every time where guns are used then there is more pressure to tighten gun control where the last mass shooting in Nova Scotia the assault rifles were brought in illegal from outside of the country. There is a great divide between the rural and urban areas of the country along with legal owners of fire arms are not involved in gun related violence. Most of the gun incidents in major cities is with illegal drug dealers who brought in or bought hand guns illegally. There was once a incident where at play ground they wanted kill someone where he got away but two children were injured. Every time a incident where there is mass loss of life then there is pressure to tighten gun control laws where as long as guns brought in illegally the problems are never going to solved by more gun control laws. --99.236.xxx.xxx |

When I started out my professional career and a Jeweler, I had friends in the industry who get shot and some killed. When I went out of the office/factory into the field, I was a target. So I needed to carry a gun. I also decided to take self defense so I wouldn't have to rely solely on my guns.
I have many occasions to use my gun for self protection and to chase away the bad guys. I also used my self defense skills when every possible.
Even in my real estate profession I have to rely on my guns to protect myself, property and tenants.
When I had my kids around, I had to re-think my strategy. NO more making myself and family a target. With kids, I couldn't always carry a weapon or leave on loaded and accessible -- locked away in a safe, unloaded.
I don't know if any of you have served time in the military and had to shoot or be killed. Just because you carry a gun doesn't mean you are ready to kill someone.
On the other hand, having a gun on my persons gave me the confidence and ability to save others from harm. A dog was attacking a child with many watching and unable to offer any assistance because the dog was also attacking anyone who got in it's way. I pulled out my gun and half of the crowd was looking at me in horror, that I would even consider shooting a dog. Like the dog was more or equally as important as a child being bitten to death.
So after the shooting who spent the most time in court? The dog's owners? The victim's and family? Or the person who saved the day? Well I had to return for 3 court appearances, pay fines and sue to get my weapon back. --47.155.xx.xxx |

CCP when I started to carry it was consealed. With the current atmosphere I carry OWB and in full view.
I don't give a darn who sees it-- as long as the ones walking up to where we're working see it.
We go to houses all the time that may be vacant-- or on appointments to meet prospects or while working people will knock to see inside (those we don't let in) but they are at the door.
I spent 400.00 for my people to take a gun class-- I took it with them. Best money spent. A pro taught them how to handle the gun safely and we all had range time.
My serious advise to all LL's. Invest in a good weapon-- glock 19 for OWB and Glock 43X concealed gun is good and good prices-- they work right out of the box and in rain and water. Get a good holster-- ladies get a good IWB holster not a pocketbook holster-- whats the first thing a crook will take-- your pocketbook so no guns in pocketbooks.
Join the range for one year membership and use it to practice.
To have a gun for protection is not just for you but those around you. I got a laugh from Robert ON-- funny my gun club is on the way to every thing.
If your lefty== like me make sure your weapon is ambidextoious. I personally have Walthers. PPQ M2 PPQ M1 also PPQ SC LE compact and just Thursday got my PDP compact-- best gun and shooter I've ever owned. Right out of the box and never used by me before 15 in the black -- my son 14 in the black. With no practice. We go to the range once a week and have fun doing it. --99.103.xxx.xxx |

Years ago one of our local LLs was also the police chief. He was a very athletic 6'4". In the summer he would collect rents as early as 0530, in a muscle shirt and shorts...with a big .44 magnum strapped to his hip.

Not in this area. It's very low crime here.
That's partly the culture of the area and partly that many people do carry. If you want to be a mugger, you go and work someplace where it isn't so very likely that your potential victim is carrying and will shoot you when you threaten them. Or that the next fellow on the sidewalk is carrying and he will shoot you. It's just high risk to threaten people around here, so the criminals end to not do it. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

The towns I now go into have been ones where all of a sudden roads and exits are blocked or right in broad day light they steal your tools out of the work truck -- or as posted the beginning of the week by me they shoot out windows while your inside working.
I've changed my mind set on OWB. I still try to cover up but when working I don't care any longer.
Practice double tapping all the time.
