State Specific Question About: COLORADO (CO)

I have a situation where I rented to several roommates/tenants.

I now need to return the security deposit and don't know if I must issue one check payable to all of them or just the tenant that I initially received the security deposit funds from and just let them sort it out.

I also didn't receive forwarding addresses for any of them so do I just mail the security deposit certified to the property they rented from me and let the post office forward to whoever changed their address?

I've always been under the impression that in Colorado you need to return security deposit to all persons on the lease.

Your advice is much appreciated!

All names go on the check to the last known address-they can figure it out. Do not open it if it comes back to you. Send it registered or certified. Just because one handed you the money does not necessarily mean they paid the whole thing. --73.230.xxx.xx

This should be addressed in the lease. Our lease states that the SD is returned equally in separate checks to all tenants listed on the lease unless otherwise specified and signed off on by all the tenants. All deductions are equally divided the same way. If there is a roommate change then the new tenant pays the leaving tenant and all tenants sign off on this change of who owns the SD. --70.20.xx.xx

Our lease states, in more than one place, that the deposit will be returned in ONE check made out to everyone on the lease.
