Today it is $1.099 for a litre of gasoline where in the Greater Toronto Area it is around $1.20 litre for regular. The imperial gallon was not used here since the 1980s where the imperial gallon was larger then the Us gallon 4.54 litres or 3.78 litres as the Us gallon is 20 per cent smaller then the imperial gallon. There are many taxes on a litre of gasoline like a carbon tax which is 3 per cent per litre plus the harmonized sales tax of 13 per cent per litre where about the cost is taxes plus a road tax as well which work out to half the cost. There is also a 13 per cent tax on electricity, natural gas as well where it costs a lot more to live here. Well there is universal medical care where some think it is free which is not true where modern medical care is expensive no matter who is paying. In my town there aren't any gas stations so everyone has to fill-up in one of the neighboring towns. At the beginning of January I was paying $1.97 a gallon for Irving gas, yesterday I notice that the same station was now charging $2.57 for the same regular gas. That's about a 2 cent per day increase & I imagine with all the cold problems down south coupled with the pipe line shutdown that the price will continue to rise. --71.174.xxx.xx

By the summer a litre of gasoline could easily be $1.30 per litre including the 4.4 cent per litre carbon tax to fund social programs. It is amazing there are lot of the gas guzzling pick up trucks with large tires along in town with modifications that are going to increase fuel consumption. If aero dynamics are reduced then fuel consumption goes up. Using 20 litres per hundred kilometres is very high. European standards are 4 to 6 litres per hundred kilometres. Large Us built pick up trucks are very rare in Europe as taxes along too large for some in town roads will cost 80,000 to 90,000 euros where some try to buy from Canada as the speedometer and odometer is in kilometres per hour and kilometres. Wait until they start increasing carbon tax then the auto makers will stop producing altogether. One company in the Us is making Junkers type engine with six cylinders opposed where no valves.
