We got word last week through our local Senior Center email than they were starting the over 65 shot here (instead of just over 75) so I jumped online and saw they might also do 64 with comorbidities too so I signed us both up and a few days later got a text we were in! So sat in line in car today for about 3 hours at a county drive- through site. Not a total loss of time, we watched some of the inauguration on phone which was nice, listened to Howard Stern too.

Shot was completely painless - I looked away and didn't even know he had done it. So now we wait about a month for second one.

Oldest granddaughter & DIL got theirs on Sunday as they are teachers. Youngest granddaughter gets hers next week after 16th birthday as she is an after-school teacher. My son gets his because they all got theirs so they are not going to leave a single household member unvaccinated like that. Different guidelines county by county, state by state.

I'm glad you got it. There's so much debate out there about do it or not but for people over 60/65 I think you can't take a crap shoot life style chance on this. Almost everyone is thinking do I or don't I?

from the first shot you need 21 or 28 days depending on your brand for 2nd shot. It takes 7 days for your system to start absorbing it (1st shot) and your protection is 50%. Second shot gives you the other 45% protection. 2ND shot another 7 days to full 95% protection.

No one knows how long it last -- but since the cure rate is 95% that still leaves 5% or 5 out of 100 who could get it.

SO continue Masking UP. wash hands and distance.

Just because you got shots doesn't mean you can't be a carrier and spread to others-- they just don't know yet.

I found out that HI you still need to quarantine 10 days or submit a clearance letter dated 3 or less days saying no C-19. (even though you got the 2 shots)

Congrats! Our state just yesterday revised their "75 and up" to the same as your state has. I'm relieved, as my hubby is both over 65 and has an autoimmune issue. Now if we can just get him signed up for the vaccine in a timely fashion...

I'm in the dead last group - a trifle under 65 and no significant health issues. Still masking and staying away from people - fortunately, we're having a mild winter so far, so I can get out for socially distanced walks with friends.

Dr. Agus was on Howard Stern yesterday and he was a voice of science and reason and calm and tact, I went to today's appointment completely calm and happy.

A fifteen year old who is already teaching after school is very commendable. I would make it a point to be proud of her.

I missed the Inauguration, I forgot it was today...but better late than never, I made sure to hang the flag out front. I have a US passport, so all Inaugurations are very important to me. I simply work too much and have very very very very little contact with the outside world - thought I had a couple more days.

But I'll do my part. I'll keep wearing masks....I prefer the loose fitting ones so that when I'm standing in the grocery lines I can snack on grapes.

As for the shots, If they are in short supply give mine to the people who need them.

MYOB, any after effects for you? Both DH and I had weirdly vivid dreams last night, although we can't remember what they were, and slightly sore arms this morning (very slight.) So far, that's it.

We had no fever or anything other than tender arm where we got shot.

It was actually more painful to read the posts here then to get the shot.

I noticed this inauguration was all about the coats instead of the ball dresses.

Wife and I had the China Virus a month ago so we do not see the need for a shot, already immune - for now.

Ken: To answer your question of why you still need to wear a mask if vaccinated, I'll repost what I answered when 6x6 asked the same question:

In general, we should be wearing masks to protect OTHERS. Wearing masks (with or without the vaccine) is not to protect OURSELVES. Masks are intended to prevent us from spreading the virus to other people. You wear a mask for others.

The vaccine is designed to stop us from getting infected with the virus. So, we take that for ourselves.

Studies have not yet concluded if we can still SPREAD the virus after we are vaccinated even if it keeps us from getting it. There is still a chance that we can carry the virus and spread it to others even after the vaccine (which can prevent us from having our bodies infected with the virus, but might not fully prevent us from being carriers to spread it to others).

THAT is why we wear a mask even after we are vaccinated. Because masks protect others, not ourselves.

Alan: It is not known at all if you are "immune" just because you've already had it. In fact, there is evidence that the opposite is true -- that you can be reinfected under some circumstances even if you already had it. Especially a very light case like you appear to have had.

That is why it is recommended that you still be vaccinated even if you've already had it. You should also continue to wear a mask since it looks like you may be able to still spread it to others even if not infected (see post above this).

I've been helping my flip house partner work on his new project recently. He's remodeling an old farmhouse and turning it into a sober living facility for drug addicts. He's figuring that he's going to bring in about $500 a month per person in this house and have six people living in it.

I got an email today from a medical conglomerate about how to get an appointment. They don't do business in Idaho and there is nothing available in Washington state any further east than the middle of the state.

It told who is eligible and gave the information about how to get an appointment. Then it concluded by telling me that there are no appointment times available. Not that I really want to drive 6 hours in each direction to get a shot, even if it were available, which it is not.

There are no large cities in Idaho and none of the hospitals had the equipment to keep the low freezing temperatures. So the governor hired specialty freezers and sent them around and medical workers have been vaccinated, but no word about any other vaccine available for anybody.

Pennsylvania has been very slow from what I've seen. I think some of the general public (the older folks or the semi-older ones with medical issues) are now getting appts. Before this past week, nothin'.

The distribution is whacked, Woodsmoke. As are the guidelines. My brother lives in Maine, an aging and scattered mostly rural population. They can't find anything. Minimum age is 70. NH, right next door, minimum age is 65. Massachusetts it's 75. (Plus of course health care workers, etc.)

Here in NC it's 65, or 64 with comorbidities. And based on what Pat/VA said, we have enough to give it to non-resident property owners as well.
