In Michigan, if a landlord requests a money judgment at the time of filing the complaint for nonpayment of rent and pays an additional filing fee, but the landlord is unable to obtain personal service over the tenant, just attached the complaint to the front door and both landlord and tenant show up in court, does the landlord get a money judgment because the tenant did show up in court?

(Note: I am aware the money judgment can be adjourned to a later date or the landlord can file again at a later date against the tenant in small claims or district court.)

One reason WHY we love when tenants answer the court. Proves they have been served. We do not push for anything other than rent and will amend the case using proper court paperwork to do so if it runs into the next month.

Keep your judgements under control. That means don't make them to large. We file a SECOND civil case for damages and additional costs incurred.

REASONING: if you make the judgment to big-- they'll look at b-k as an alternative and u get nothing.

Music to your ears--- when x-tenant says "I already paid the judgement" and we say "maybe the first one" but there's this one also. WHAM slap another 3500.00 on them for damages or additional rent. --99.103.xxx.xxx

Yes, my understanding is that if they actually show up in person -- then a money judgement can still be obtained here even if they were not personally served.

In other words, they were stupid to show up, but it works in our favor when they do! :)
