I've been listing lots of items lately on CL, the higher priced items I seem to get alot of messages asking if I am the original owner of item, email ( they give email address) as I don't check CL mail often or for my safety I need to verify you are a real person, can I have your phone # to text a code and have you verify it.
What's the purpose, other than a scam? What are they really trying to pull, any one know?

People are just being careful. Especially with pets, people just put up a photo and don't have the puppy. They get someone to come out and then rob them. --71.104.xx.xxx |

It’s a scam, the scammers will basically hijack your cell phone number. Once they have your cell number they may be able to clean out your accounts, confiscate your email, hack your social media, steal your data, etc. They can do this because a lot of companies, like banks, email providers and social media platforms, have you verify your identity by texting a code to your cell phone. How many times have you forgotten a password, or logged into something and they ask you for a verification code after they send it to you? If someone hacks your phone, those codes act basically as an unlocked door to your financial and digital life. --173.48.xxx.xxx |

Jkj....wow, makes me glad I use my burner phone to reply to my ads. I don't use my "real" email address for CL, either.
They have only replied to my higher dollar ads. Although I'm amazed how hard it is to give away stuff on CL --174.193.xxx.xxx |

Hmmm my CL posts for my FSBO property posts keep getting removed. I am not sure why. If try to repost, they get removed quickly. Thank you for the scam alert on these type of replies. --172.56.xx.xx |
