Great advice, thanks! (by Laura [VA]) Posted on: Jan 10, 2021 11:26 AM Message:
I asked here a while back about buying inexpensive cabinets at the big box stores to outfit a laundry/pantry/mud room in a condo I’m trying to make more ‘upscale’. Someone here advised me to look for higher quality used cabinets instead. I watched Facebook marketplace for a while, but everything was either is really rough shape or gone by the time I inquired about them. Well, I persisted and finally scored my cabinets! I got a 9’ wall of solid wood cabinets for $300 and could not be happier. They were from a remodel in a nearby high-end neighborhood. The trick to getting my used cabinets was to respond to the ad, saying I would take them and could come over right away. On the ads where I asked any questions, I lost out. The guy I bought my cabinets from said he got 20 replies in the first hour, but I was the only one who didn’t ask questions, and said I could come right over with cash (my plan was that I could have just walked away if they weren’t what I wanted.). My laundry/pantry now looks better than my kitchen. Thanks for the great tip. --67.172.xxx.xxx |

Thanks for the great advice. Me, I'm one of the ones who would ask questions, so I would have lost out.
You are correct. If you get there and you don't like them, you can walk away. --76.178.xx.xx |

Laura,
SCORE!!!
A hundred years ago when I was starting I bought lots of used cabinets from a kitchen contractor. He would call me and I would grab any cabinets he had. I cobbled together several kitchens at $20 per cabinet.
They are still in use today!
