I'd go with a local credit union.

Banks are going through a wave of mergers. 2 of mine in the last 6 months have done this.

Plus big banks are bending over to appease all the crazy groups. --75.7.xx.xx

I do not like PNC bank at all!

I had an issue with them after my husband passed away. He had a HELOC against his house that I ended up paying off with moneyu from his estate. I was fortunate that I was able to sell the house very quickly and I needed PNC to record the release of lien so that I could convey a clear title. They dragged their feet in doing that. It took more than one call from my attorney's office as well as from me to get them to do their job & record the release.

I have my tenants' security deposit in an account at PNC. It's too much trouble, otherwise I would move that money somewhere else. But I will not use PNC for anything else.

For 99.999% of my banking needs, I find that smaller local banks & credit unions work the best for me. I prefer to do business with banks that actually keep their personnel at one location & who know me when I call or walk in. --71.174.xxx.xx

PNC took over my small town bank. High fees and the workers were hostile. I closed the accounts and told them why. No reaction or apology, just sign here to close. I am now banking with a smallish local bank and they know me by name. In my experience, there is no better bank than Howard Bank. --157.204.xxx.xxx

20 years ago they were great.......and they grew, and grew and grew some more. As they grew, they become less attractive to deal with.

For the past 15 years, I have been with a local bank - and have loved them most of the time. --24.101.xxx.xx

I am finally clearing my money out of PNC. The previous bank manager always went out of her way to take care of me herself. After my hubby died I wanted to set up a deposit account as I did not have time to collect rents like he did. I was treated quite rudely. So I went to my local bank and they took good care of me. My biggest beef? After being a customer there for 15 years and with multiple accounts, they make it nearly impossible for my employees to cash their paychecks at PNC which are written on my PNC business checking. They have to go into the bank, not the driveup and present at least 3 forms of ID, and then may have to talk to a manager as well. Then they are made to wait until someone can be bothered.

This is a small town and they know my employees, but they are a national bank and do not have the freedom to "relax their standards". --216.23.xxx.xx

I’ve had PNC Bank account for over 30 years. My current account is a performance select checking accounts.

The following services are free

cashiers check,

wire transfers,

checks,

Bill pay,

transfers between bank accounts outside of PNC,

zelle,

No maintenance fee,

No Lost card replacement,

No transaction cap,

No overdraft fees (I have another account that they pull from if there’s an overdraft)

No minimum balance,

hardcopy statements,

Foreign transactions,

reimbursed fees when using ATMs outside of their network,

FICO score, etc.

I even have a cash builder visa Signature credit card with them that insure all electronics purchased through the credit card.

I have never been successful with PNC in getting a loan such as mortgage or home equity line of credit. I’ve always found better deals with smaller community banks.

In general I’ve noticed the banking system has changed a lot in the last 20 years. A lot of the services that were free at some point or now being charged. --174.227.x.xx

Im in Pittsburgh and have my banking needs split between PNC Bank and a local bank. Similar to NJLandlord, I have not paid any fees in years to PNC but their Performance Select Chking Acct does require a $5000 avg minimum balance. I have secured several loans with PNC and have found their terms to be very reasonable (e.g., six years ago did a 6 year, $140K fixed loan for 2.08%). They do ask for a mountain of documentation when getting a loan but this is one of the reasons why PNC came through the 2008 real estate and bank crash stronger than most banks.

PNC now has a large enough presence that finding a fee- free ATM is pretty easy in most of the Mid Atlantic and Southeastern states. --108.39.xxx.xxx

My experience with PNC was mostly good at first. My dad had an account with a branch near his FL home, and they treated Dad and me very well when mom died. But when Dad died 6 months later, the banker who had helped me had moved on, and her replacement was not only clueless, but the bank manager sat in his office and talked sports with another banker while this poor newbie fumbled her way through the paperwork.

When I set up the estate account at our local branch, I had a similar experience. One knowledgeable, professional banker helped with all of the details. She was later replaced by someone who kept pressuring me to invest first the estate's, then my inheritance, with PNC. I closed the accounts and moved on to my local credit union.

Speaking of credit unions, steer clear of American Heritage (might only be in SE Pennsylvania). They have many branches, but I have found their employees to engage in sloppy date security practices. --96.245.xx.xx
