I have two teenage boys. All this political things going on, it's natural to impact their perception of the world.
What are you communicating to your kids to bring up positive energy instead of all negativity?
Any resources that you can point to? --47.187.xxx.xxx |

Great question.
I tell my kids when they go to school, if asked what their parents think about politics to say they don't like them.. the tolerant left would love to punish my children for having a conservative parent. I teach out kids that the D s want to take as much as they can from the people producing in the world and give it to people who want to do nothing. Ive explained that welfare is supposed to be temporary, a net to catch someone falling. I point out it's not meant to be a lifetime stay, like so many people do. Ive been showing them how to read between the lines to discover bias in the news and how all news has an agenda... while this is still the best country in the world, it gets a lot less great each day. We're slowly failing from wothin --174.234.xxx.xxx |

I would say... Teach them to RESEARCH things. To realize that BOTH "sides" of an issue usually have their own motives. Explain that no matter what side they are on, those people usually think that they are right. There are very few people out there who are knowingly saying things that they don't believe in. Most actually believe it to be true -- so it is more than just going "that guy is a bad guy and lies".
So, you teach them to not believe what they hear blindly. Be skeptical about strong views. Do the research to figure out what both sides say and why. Learn the different between a good source and a bad one. Understand that certain areas, websites, groups, and so on are often sounding boards for the same view -- so you can hear a LOT of "support" for something in one place -- and have it still be inaccurate.
Teach them that sometimes the truth or doing the right thing is more important than money. Teach them to not say "Well, whatever -- as long as my bottom line goes up, I don't really care." (Which I literally heard today, unfortunately.)
Teach them to love their fellow man -- even if they look different -- or love different -- or talk different.
Teach them that the truth matters. Usually above all else.
- John...

Tell them to read and/or listen to the lyrics from the song vicarious by tool. It pretty much sums up the national obsession that we have with the news media.
It's unfortunate but true.

As NE said, bring them into the woods, a lot can be learned from nature. I go walking in the woods with my kids every chance I get, and can’t wait till they are old enough to hunt with me. For now we look for animal sign and talk. I’m not gonna get into what you should talk to your boys about, but as I said a lot can be learned from nature. Nature can be cruel and beautiful, often in the same moment. --173.48.xxx.xxx |

39% of the US population thinks the election was conducted wrong. That is a problem that will have to be addressed and the system will be made to hold the faith of the American people.
The violence was uncalled for and sadly people died. The majority of the people who showed up yesterday were peaceful. Yet unlike the summer's protest were not labeled as most peaceful.
People should probably be held accountable for what they say and the results that it creates, however in our culture that is rarely the case.
Where the news media will single out the fringe in any story, the overwhelming majority of people in the US could probably agree that accountability within government is lacking.....starting at the top and going down. At some point, people quite bending and the voice of calm collective logic must be used.
After all is said - rarely is there anything ever done.
After the US left the Gold standard, there was an unintended consequence - government got a license to grow. Only question now is how much oversight does each party desire to push the intended agenda.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. As a pendulum swing side to side - so does politics. Sometimes things sway to way one way and the reaction is routinely to jerk back too hard the other way

With streaming can see news stories from other countries where will be able to get different view points. Find main media does not cover everything that is going in the world. Like here when the left wing extremists were holding demonstrations like the world was going come to end if they evicted tenants who had the means to pay rent became violent then some were arrested for vandalism. The point 0.01 per cent does not represent the majority of people who cause vandalism where they show the disrespect the democratic system that exists here. A peaceful demonstration no matter if one is right or left where vandalism then trying to storm the buildings are completely unexceptionable. During the pandemic here municipal, provincial and federal governments worked together which helped mitigate the problems that Covid 19 caused. Some politicians left the country for a vacation where people were told not to. Most of them were caught where some were forced to resign as politicians are supposed to set examples. --99.236.xxx.xxx |

If you don't have them in sports - get them involved. Watch their friends and if needed discourage them from the way left or way right friends.
Point out that the main stream media has an agenda.
Focus them on the good things in your local community.
And if available and you think it will help have the grandparents spend time with them.
Good Luck. --172.242.xx.xxx |
