After a 70 year run on life I can say "I've never seen anything like this". This being so much thrown at America in such a short time. We had it bad around mid sixty's but we made it through. Things really started shooting up in mid 90's--- everyone getting along. THEN wham we started getting nails in our tires.

As positive a person as I am-- this is a scary time-- and not just health wise scary. Country and family wise.

What I see as the beginning of the end-- is allowing those little white lies. People got so use to them-- they got bigger and now they're huge lies and roll right off our tongues. We have a reason and excuse for everything to COVER us.

Was there anyone in the RE community who felt good about yesterday evening and how we got to this point?

Roy,

I'm assuming myob is referring to the Democrats now having control over the Senate (last nights run off in GA), the House, and the Presidency. With that much power, they can (legally) accomplish all of the following:

1) Pack the SCOTUS.

2) Make DC and Puerto Rico--heavily D leaning--states, giving them larger majorities in Congress.

3) End the filibuster, the last check on power by a minority in Congress.

4) Grant amnesty citizenship to all illegal immigrants, solidifying 22 million more votes in their camp.

5) Enact sweeping legislative agendas that boil down to Govt increases of "freebies"--Medicare for All, free college, etc.

6) Water down the 2nd amendment to where it essentially has no meaning.

7) Expand laws regarding "hate speech" to include anything that doesn't line up with the D agenda, thus effectively nullifying freedom of speech.

Essentially, they have the power now to control the USA in perpetuity, regardless of anything the R party does.

Will they? I don't know. Can they? Absolutely yes.

Great empires fail from within.

I think there has been a long, continued decline in the US. Do you remember when people felt embarrassed to use food stamps or collect unemployment? There's no accountability. If someone commits a crime, they blame it on a bad childhood. There's always an accepted excuse. It's had to compete with a party that promises giveaways as part of their campaigning.... B saying - if we win GA, everyone gets $2k. How can that even be legal? But for the parasites of society, they'll gladly give their vote for 2k, free college, free student loan forgiveness... --23.126.xx.xxx

I'm out of the loop. You rich landlords are in tune with current events.

I shut it all off a few years ago, Turned off CSPAN...Love CSPAN but I chose to get to plumbing repairs instead.

I want to add. I met my first Prepper kind of person when I built houses in CT. That dude died and never saw "The Day" when everyone was going to pick up arms and the chaos was going to begin. A lifetime spent worrying.

Some years ago a friend of mine got big into this typo of thinking. I noticed a pattern, These were negative thinking people that I was meeting.

This friend had great influence over my thinking even though I didn't agree with most of the subject matter. I thought I was immune but I was not - negativity will seep in if you don't screen screen screen.

How many times has North Korea needed something? Every few years they take the stage. It is a cycle. Ford vs Chevy..it is a money maker.

So I got busy, tuned out. I literally nearly missed election day this year. I happened to be driving and saw a school open for voting.

What is the end result? Money dried up this year, however I had the most productive year to date. Positive things are happening all around.

If you want to share your point of view while we work I'm happy to listen. I love learning

If I suspect you are a negative person I'll just treat you with respect but I'm too busy living well to stick around.

Where to go? Go to the hospitals, visit with kids. Go to beach, the mountains, go ice skating.

It isn't about where you go....so long as you keep going!

8-12 years ago, I would have agreed with the sentiment that we need both parties to bring a balance of views.

But achieving a balance is not the goal any more. The goal is to get power and control and never give it back. The party that wants this now has both the opportunity and--by all accounts--the will to ignore and/or persecute anything valued by "the other side".

It's been a long time in coming, but it has indeed gotten progressively (and I use that purposefully) worse. We cannot ignore the fact that society has shifted far to the Left.

The main difference I always saw between the R and D party was not who was fiscally responsible (neither were) nor who was the most popular (that changed frequently) but rather the Rs generally values more individual responsibility and freedom whereas the Ds want central planning and Govt taking over as many areas as possible. The two philosophies are not mutually compatible, nor does one "balance" the others.

The problem now is the Ds have the tools to put in the "fix" where the Rs never again have any chance to achieve power and can therefore be safely ignored. There are some elements within their party that advocate for this.

Bottom line is we may have just had our pre-WW2 Weimar Germany moment....the last free election that means anything. Even der Fuhrer believed in free elections, until he was elected. One person, one vote, one time.

We will see.

Oh please. The pendulum has swung back and forth many times and our society is still here. If anything the current administration has crossed the line in an active attempt to subvert a free and fair election. Narrow margins like this indicate those on the fence were swayed by politicians making foolish choices. I submit if they were less belligerent and showed any type of middle ground cooperation voters would have kept the status quo by a wide margin and we would have been going through another 4 years of the dirty diaper show. --50.5.xxx.xxx

I'm thinking we'll see a civil war withing the Dem party. The moderates -vs- the far left. I also see the far left trying to throw B out so K can take over. I'm thinking the Reps will have some leverage to keep the Dems moderate.

Being a minority is what Reps do best.

So, while SID is correct on the possibilities, I doubt they have the ability to accomplish all of that.

I think you're mostly going to see lots of bailouts to the Dem states that are failing, and see SALT deductions come back. I actually benefit from greater SALT deductions (State And Local Tax). --108.69.xxx.xxx

Sid - Agree, but maybe the Dems have enough moderates to minimize the change. I sure hope so.

Think about this as an example - Housing - lets say the govt buys houses from the LL and turns them over to the tenants. How long before the LL would have them back?

Like the folks who win the lottery and in a few years they are broke. Point is, in most cases the smartest person will win.

Bruce Norris posted something on his linked account. For those of you who don't know about the Norris Group - they were able to forecast the last three real estate cycles in California.

So why is Cali important? Because it is huge and has such a large GDP as a state. If it were a stand alone country it would have the eight largest economic output.

He is saying that investors are leaving in droves from the state. Will this mean a decrease in values nationally? That money does have to be moved somewhere else. So maybe......then again - are there many bargains in your individual market place?

Since they pumped so much extra money into the economy and have not expanded the economic output at the same time, inflation can be expected ahead.
