Tenants have a six-month grace period to pay back missed rent after the moratorium ends.

Multnomah County extended its eviction moratorium on Thursday, ensuring thousands of renters who have fallen behind on rent can stay in their homes through the winter.

By a unanimous vote on Thursday morning, the board of county commissioners extended the moratorium through July 2, 2021. Tenants have a six-month grace period to pay back missed rent.

“While the great news about vaccines represents light at the end of the tunnel, we are in no way out of the woods,” said Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury. “Extending the state of emergency today is an acknowledgment of the reality that the health safety and well being of our entire community and especially the most vulnerable continue to be threatened by this virus.”

The vote comes as Oregon lawmakers are considering extending the statewide moratorium on evictions past the new year. Legislators will meet on Monday for a special session to take up the question. Kafoury said the county didn’t want to wait.

And the race is on to find out which city/state will go the farthest in torching the US Constitution.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, so I don't believe this is part of a massive plot to destroy public property. No, I was around the Govt enough in 23 years of military service, and the answer now is more than likely the same it has always been: sheer, unadulterated incompetence and looking out for oneself.

Let's assume that we can agree covid is not a hoax. And we also assume that it's spread through breathing the same air as people who have covid.

Now, what should we as a bunch of people do in response to this threat? And this threat may cause as many deaths as a world war. And we can minimize the damage by preventing people from breathing the same air. But that will cause the loss of jobs and what is the most expensive things people spend money on? Housing- so housing providers are the easiest place to shift the burden. And we don't have a big lobby group like big banks or big food. And landlords get little sympathy from anyway.

So politicians took the easy path, I don't expect much more. I personally think PPP loans and direct payments to landlords would be better solution. But when has government followed the best solution?

One of the women was almost in tears as she spoke, because she has been accused of being selfish for maintaining her freedom and her beliefs and not wearing a mask. She stated, "I've never been selfish in my life, I don't understand this."

6x6 - I think at the beginning (middle of March) many if not most people did comply.... because they had no where they could go... businesses and public places were shut down supposedly for two weeks. I believe that morphed into a minimum of a month and a half or two months.

District attorneys and sheriffs down here also say they won't prosecute or enforce.

MANY restaurants and gyms refuse to comply. There is a published statewide list of those who refuse to buckle under and lose their businesses and those places are thriving.

I have a friend who has refused to comply. He said he can shut down again (he complied the first time and basically did what he was told) and knows he won't be able to reopen. His options are comply and lock up permanently or disobey and face the possibility of losing his business that his family has built up the past 40ish years. He chooses to go down fighting if it comes to that.

One establishment owner next county over basically says ... I've already got $10,000 in fines that I'm not going to be able to pay. I'll stay open so my employees at least get through Christmas and worry about the fines at some point down the road ...

My day business provides me a pretty good vantage point of how this covid thing has affected small biz.

In a nutshell, the daily ambiguity of government intervention in our basic liberties, our ability to plan basic business actions, our ability to manage employees, and our ability to manage our business has provided bizarre unintended consequences.

We'd have been better off with an expensive federal ad campaign to convince us all to wash our hands good, inform us about risk of gathering..but not constant restrictions that change on the daily that are contradictory, and in many cases,nonsensical, ineffective and go directly against basic human rights and property rights.

I guess my question is not how many more people are getting the virus - actual numbers and percentages - that are touted daily locally.

They also tell how many have gotten tests. Of course that number has had a sharp upward line because more tests are available to the general public than there were in the spring.

They tell how many tested are positive and negative.

They tell how many icu beds are taken up (not mentioning that one of those beds might be Uncle Joe with nothing to do with covid).

They REALLY stress daily percentages increased positivess.

They publish these complex graphs that even a visual nerd such as myself gets googley eyed over.

What they don't publish is what is the increase in death percentages - they publis actual numbers.

One local chart I saw not too long ago divided up by perhaps township or zip code had a really high percentage for a VERY rural area. Reading the small footnote it said something along the lines of "adjusted for population"!!

How long will antibodies last in humans is the big wild card along with how much will the virus mutate itself.
