Bought 800 ft.² of aquaseal waterproof laminate at lumber liquidators on sale today (12mm thick, $1.89sq) . It’s going to take a couple of weeks to come in so I have some time to think it over. Looks like consumer reports gives it a score in the 90s. I beat on it and tried to scratch it and did no damage. Would work well in a pet friendly home. Also put the sample underwater for most of a day with no swelling. This is a pretty nice home, so I didn’t want to use my usual ‘allure’ type rental flooring. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with this product? --67.172.xxx.xxx

Admittedly I have no direct experience with the aquaseal waterproof laminate, but plenty of experience with common laminate which is not good when exposed to wet conditions for extended periods or intermittent repeated exposures. Swelling, delaminating, bubbles, cupping, etc.

Your test "put the sample underwater for most of a day with no swelling" looks promising but I wouldn't be satisfied with testing for only "most of a day." Give it at least a few days submerged with no ill effects, then we're talking.

Right now my gold standard for better dwellings is Luxury Vinyl Tile. Water doesn't hurt it, quieter than laminate, no more difficult to install, and looks just as good. Will you find it at your $1.89 sq ft? Might require patience. --97.126.xx.xx

That looks better than regular laminate. But if you look at the info. Only waterproof for 24 - 72 hours. Better to stick with a true waterproof flooring.

We have been using a more expensive Southwind brand LVP for about 5 years now. Very happy but about 2.90 sq ft.

On the next one I am going to try Duralux brand. This is a little cheaper and what my flooring guy now recommends. --75.182.xx.xxx

aura,

Your best test is to put it in a rental. THAT will tell you if it's as tough as they advertise!:)
