Any general thoughts on something "better" than VanGuard Total stock Market Index? I've done okay with this one over the past decade or so.
Barring no REALLY significant issues in my life, this would be long term for the benefit of grandchildren who range in age from 5 to 17. Wouldn't want them to have any $$$ until 30 years old. --72.70.xxx.xxx |

If you're OK with 100% exposure to equities for that money, it's probably as good as any IMO. Some would argue that you should be in S&P instead of Total index, but I think that is personal preference. If you wanted to look at a 60/40 equities/bond exposure, check out Vanguard's STAR fund. --70.178.x.xx |

“The Affluent Investor” by Phil Demuth is well worth the $15.00 it costs on Amazon. It is targeted for folks with approx. $1 million to $10 million or so to invest. Every page is pure gold, filled with practical, actionable advice.
There is a detailed chapter on US v. International stocks, small cap., value vs. growth stocks. It is written in a very approachable style. --98.13.xx.xxx |

Well, I was thinking about looking that book up until you mentioned the target amounts. That knocks me way out of the ball park. --73.120.xx.xxx |

The book would be appropriate for anyone with a six-figure nest egg, too. --98.13.xx.xxx |

The S&P has become too tech-heavy for me. I’ve moved to more of a Russell 2000 index fund. Or you can find “equal weighted” S&P index funds that minimize the tech risk. --99.92.xxx.xxx |
