With Thanksgiving over I can let all my family know that they can expect a disappointment for Christmas. No new toys for grown people.

I take it that you really dislike your family.
Gift giving is a bad tradition though. A waist of money and a lot of regifting. I had to brake my wife of that tradition. Grins... --73.120.xx.xxx |

That is kind of my point. Everyone can buy there own gifts, if they must have a gift, and be happy. I am happy with the gift of saving money since mine would be bought out of the same funds. --73.120.xx.xxx |

i put away all the fall decorations today and got out some of the Christmas decoration. Please hurry and get here, and then I want to put those away and hurry to NEW YEAR 2021... please, bring it on! Thanksgiving was very odd with just a four people as other family decided to distance themselves from us as they work in health care field and around lots of people. Hoping Christmas can be different but not like Thanksgiving. I'm still thankful and grateful just ready for all this mask and cv19 to be behind us. --172.58.xxx.xx |

We have observed this simple rule for over 40 years: charitable Christmas giving must exceed all Christmas giving to family and friends.
This rule keeps the focus on OTHERS and not OURSELVES. It also keeps track of total giving and helps to maintain reasonable expectations.
Christmas set the giving example by a loving Father giving his son to our world. Sacrificial giving at its best.
That's the tradition we strive to maintain...selfless giving to others, not self gratification.
We can do that the rest of the year! (only kidding) --69.80.xx.xx |

I look forward to seeing my Non-Rent paying tenants have full Christmas Trees with toys unit it. Their cars washed every week, professionally. A trip planned to visit some far off place and they are going to take pictures with their New iPhone. What else would they be doing with my rent money? Pay Rent? --47.155.xx.xxx |

I won't be bringing out the Holiday music until after the 1st of December. I'm starting to feel that I am the only one left in the country that celebrates the winter festival in December. The stores here started Christmas long before Halloween.
No gift giving between adults in my family and there are no children left. I give practical gifts to my son and he will get something useful for me.
My son bought a lovely smoker for himself, so I loaded up on smoker accessories to give him for Yule, but the ungrateful booger keeps buying himself accessories that I already have hiding in my closet. He's bought mops and cookbooks and a smoke tube. I headed him off when he announced he was on the way to the market to buy thermometers and I had to give him his set of instant read thermometers early.
At any rate, we will make the best of it and be cheerful. Thanksgiving went absolutely fine. Good food, good company, although limited in number. --76.178.xx.xx |

if this is true and not tongue in cheek, it makes me sad. I don't run out and buy just "something" to buy it (well actually I do for the littlest ones because they come up with the most incredible list but I shop all year long in my travels and meanderings.
I also make my own personal attempt at teaching grandchildren the act of "giving". We donate to SPCA - they all love animals and they can visualize where their items end up. They choose toys for the Toys for Tots boxes -because they can relate to that even though I personally disagree with it. I donate to some of my own charities in their names on behalf of or in memory of folks... they see and are told about it but it means little to them in the abstract. --72.70.xxx.xxx |

I love giving gifts. Some years it was over the top, while others hum drum.
As a kid, I gave out more presents than my parents. I had both parents, I had all I needed.
This year may be a touch different, but no matter. When you are a kid, Christmas come every five years......When you are an adult....Christmas comes five times a year.
It will be next Christmas in no time!
Post Script. I'm surprised that people actually limit their gatherings. Really is a surprise to me as this whole time I've watched people go to the stores, drive around, do anything they wish....simply because they are deemed essential lawn cutters. Has anyone been protected when the vast majority of people still travel and work? --108.28.xx.xxx |
