Carpet Tiles, to pad or not to? --108.2.xx.xx |

I'm pretty sure they are designed to not be used with pad. Seems to me like if you have pad underneath the seams would all separate as they are walked on. But I would check and follow the manufacturers instructions. --70.178.x.xx |

Not.
Like razor said.
And, aren't they usually stick-on?
I don't know - I've never used them, only seen them --70.160.xxx.xxx |

I have some stick on ones and they are very good, no padding. they are from Home Depot. One gets stained, pull up and replace. --71.104.xx.xxx |

Carpet tiles come in a few sizes from 12x12" to 24x24" and I've seen some that were 24x36". They have sticky backs and most have a thin layer of foam rubber padding. Nice for kid's rooms, rec rooms, garages (no cars). Some are meant for outdoor use on patios or porches. Easy to do, and like Allym said, pull one up and replace if damaged. --72.199.xx.xxx |

We acquired a garage apartment that had been redone in this awesome thick carpet tile. I looked at all sorts of flooring places, between DFW and Houston, and couldn't find anyone who could sell me more of it. I finally found out-- it was the sort of padded carpet tile people use near climbing walls, rather than ordinary flooring.
After I found that out, I went ahead and bought some relatively-thinner low-pile commercial-grade carpet tile (meant for an office) for a finished attic. It's held up very well, even without padding or nailing or otherwise securing it in place--- but the attic is essentially a glorified closet, rather than actual living space.

Russ,
No pad.
And just say no to carpet of any kind!
It holds stink, allergens, mold, requires cleaning and other maintenance.
40% of your prospects hate carpet.
My carpet free life has saved me THOUSAND$$$ each year.

For those of you who do use carpet, or vinyl flooring I have used Carpet Express online. They are located in Dalton, GA if any of you are near there. We wanted a commercial grade flooring for our hallways. Checking the local stores they wanted $6. something per sq ft. Googled around and got their quote. Even though we had to pay for shipping, it was lots cheaper and came without a hitch. Their customer service was great. And they do have carpet tiles. We've been wanting the look of wood flooring in a couple kitchens, but the floors are not flat enough to use the laminate. Think I just found a nice looking wood look vinyl and will order a sample first. --186.233.xxx.xx |

DeeAnn - I used a wood look vinyl in a small kitchen one time. Everyone remarked how beautiful it was. Quite a few folks bent down and tapped the floor to see if it was "real". --72.70.xxx.xxx |

Thank you for your thoughts on that Nicole. Hubby is not keen on wood look vinyl but if the sample coming in is as nice as it looks online, I'll have to override him. And since the wood look is in, we can't find another decent vinyl that we like or that would look right, we just might do that. --173.244.xxx.xx |
