From beautiful and chilly MO, a warm Thanksgiving! My family of 5 is spending a little time today visiting my in-laws who contrary to the movie stereo type are really great people. Don't worry...only 7 of us and no one showing any c19 risks.

.

I'm sure none of us could have predicted last year at this time where we would be today. The things we used to take for granted....simple things like seeing the smile on someone's face in the grocery checkout lane or sitting shoulder to shoulder in church and singing a favorite song or hymn. Who knows when/if the world will ever go back to the same?

.

Read an article this morning from the National Restaurant Association. Something like 20% of restaurants nationwide have closed permanently and they expect the number to go as high as 40% by Spring. Almost half an industry...gone... in 1 year's time. Think on that. Restaurants are already a high failure rate industry, so the ones that are closing now include some of the hardest working, most creative entrepreneurs alive. They are the ones who figure out how to create amazing experiences on razor thin profit margins and work 6-7 days a week for 12+ hours.

.

So on this Thanksgiving I'm taking time to be grateful for things I am still sometimes guilty of taking for granted.

.

I am thankful to see my family.

.

I am thankful for my country. We certainly have some big problems to deal with, but when millions of people are trying to come here each year to better their lives you know we've got a lot of good going for us too.

.

I am thankful for my church and house, my spouse and children, clean water, a nice car to drive, opportunity, health, peace, sanitary sewers, central heat and air, electricity, indoor plumbing, coffee, and 5 brands of flour on the grocery store shelf.

.

I am thankful I can read and write. That I have a home library fill of books. That the internet exists with the world's knowledge at my fingertips.

.

I am thankful for Mr. Jeffrey Taylor, the great Mr. Landlord himself! For bringing us together here to talk, share, debate, argue (politely) and learn. And for the many friends here I've made over the years.

.

I am thankful for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

.

To all you this day wherever you are and with whomever you gather to celebrate, Happy Thanksgiving! --136.32.xx.xxx

It is absolutely so easy to feel self pity on ourselves.

The truth of the matter is we as North Americans, are some of the most fortunate anywhere in the world. The poorest of poor here would be considered the norm elsewhere. In other places they would even be rich.

The media will tell you how bad COVID has impacted the US. I am not here to tell you that isn't true - there is suffering. The real news story should be how it impacts third world countries. Many of the victims there started out as food in secure before COVID crushed their economies. How many million will truly die from this is unknown. Starvation is a horrible way to go. The point I am bringing up is as Americans - and as a landlords on top of that we have an obligation to help those who need it. There are plenty today that are counting on us. I challenge every Landlord to keep this in their minds.

Where I will admit these are not status quo times, we will do fine. If at church the basket is being passed around - dig a little deeper into your pocket. If you pass that red kettle at the post office, fold up your donation instead of letting it jingle in.

Together we can boot strap thru this challenge.

Happy Thanksgiving to ALL. --24.101.xxx.xx

Good Morning, and Happy Thanksgiving!

We drove about 950 miles to see the youngest, currently stationed in Savannah, GA. Uncle Sam has provided them with a lovely 3&2.5 duplex here. Great neighborhood, good people, polite and supportive.

Property Developer Mom couldn't help but look closely at the 2012 built duplex to see what is good and what is poorly built. Always interesting to see other models and things.

Hope all are well! --69.245.xx.xxx

I am thankful for the house, the 401K provided by a wise and benevolent company years ago, two cars, the rentals dad left, thankful to have had a dad and mom, he didnt. Dad's parents died in the Great Flu Pandemic. Three cute dogs are here and i can feed them well. I like to cook. Roaming in the yard with deer and squirrels and birds and freedom. I would say I am thankful for the Republic but we have to fix it a bit right now. --71.104.xx.xxx

Happy Turkey Day to all! At this point in my life, I'm just thrilled that I wake up each morning in my own bed, in my cute little house, with my cute little critters all over the neighborhood. Raccoons took a bath in the water dishes last night (have to flush them daily), Skunks managed to lightly spray the bushes, Coyote howling faintly a few houses over, Feral Cats (4 remaining) came for the 10 pm feeding despite the cold weather, and the HUGE, probably very old, opossum was curled up sleeping in a kitty bed that I put under the feeding table for rainy cold days. I'm hoping he's gone this morning. If not, it's a short trip for food and water for him. Loads of thanks to God and Nature and Humans for everything good and beautiful that comes my way. Enjoy today and every day! --72.199.xx.xxx

Hi Ray-N-Pa. Nope I'm right near 3rd Avenue, South of L St. The Raccoons came in with the Big Cedar Fire of 2003. Never had them before, but they were displaced and ended up eating all my goldfish (huge ones) that were in my 2 Clawfoot Tubs outside that I was growing Water Lilies in. What a mess. Next year, I had restocked and they hit the tubs again and this time did more 'murdering' than eating. Just tossed fish on the lawn to die. Ugh! We've always had the opossums since I moved in here in 1978. They ate all the snails. I've never seen one in at least 30 years. Skunks are recent. Mom and Dad skunk brought the babies here from I dunno, and left them under my back deck. 4 babies finally figured out how to climb a small stepladder to get to the dry food on the table. So cute. Never saw mom and dad again. That was last years crop. Maybe the little ones (now grown) will leave me some 'presents' and there will be cuteness all over again. Never been sprayed, hardly any smelly stuff in a year. Mostly from down the street. Loads of fun watching my 'critter cam' that is trained on the feeding table. Sometimes I will see a raccoon, opossum and skunk all eating from the same dish! They seem to cooperate 'carefully'. Raccoons are the cutest but eat everything in sight. HUGE critters. Seasonal so it's not all year. Whew! --72.199.xx.xxx

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends here!

SID's list was pretty thorough. I'll add I'm thankful I was able to leave my JOB 24 years ago and pursue life on MY terms.

I'll contribute with excerpts from Abraham Lincoln's Proclamation setting aside a day of Prayer and Thanksgiving to God.

Let's remember WHY we have this day.

Think WE have it tough? The country was in the thick of the bloodiest Civil War!

BRAD

Washington, D.C.

October 3, 1863

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

he year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come...the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union. --73.102.xxx.xxx
