It seems that you can't buy ceiling fans that can take bulbs with conventional bases anymore.Does anyone know the reason why? --66.30.xx.xxx

Tried to fix a ceiling fan where was extremely difficult then fixed one. Bought some ceiling fans on line with a remote where some ceiling fans had a built in LED lighting. Since the ceiling were used saved a considerable amount of money where some had to be repaired. Ikea sells LED bulbs which fit ceiling fans where the smaller and medium base can be bought. With LED bulbs which last a long time compared to incandescent there is not constant replacement. Bought a used gas stove where the oven door would not open. With coat hanger opened door then took out door lock assembly which was filled with grease then completely cleaned the door lock assembly then the oven was working normally but later found the two oven light bulbs were burnt out where the bulbs used European bases which can not buy at any store. The appliance supplier the bulbs were around $50 dollars which is expensive where if bought from Germany was reasonable price but the voltage was 230 VAC which would not work at the same brightness level. So bought bulbs at amazon. Well paid $125 Cdn for the gas stove where if bought new that stove would cost $2,000 plus 13 % HST so that was considerable saving. Like everything cost where if there is saving that can save pennies then over thousands of units there is a saving. Wonder why a stove that is made in the US would use European bulbs for the oven. --147.194.xxx.xx

The cheap fans use the small base. Found the on-sale promotional fans from Mernards were also this was. And i too fell for the deal. Now i have some of those such a pain to remember and organize what house gets what. Didnt realize it had become more difficult. What's goin on with your situation? --172.56.xx.xx

Each rental place gets it's own notebook and file on the computer.

I go through each as I rehab them and get them ready to rent.Make a complete as possible list of everything --window and door sizes, type of flooring, appliances, lights, plumbing, heating, filters, etc. It's all in the book/file for that place.

In the storage building/garage I have extras of as many things as practical. Whenever it's time to replace something, check the garage first. If not there, head for Habitat Restore, or thrift shops that carry that stuff, then the big box stores or the internet to order stuff. At my local Restore, light bulbs are 25 cents and they have lots of them. I doubt I'll run out in the next 10 years. Sinks, faucets, fans, light fixtures, used cabinets, countertops, toilets, single windows, used doors, etc. Again, this stuff is suitable for C level places mostly and I save a ton compared to retail prices. --75.7.xx.xx

The Federal government regulation to phase out incandescent bulbs led to the fan manufacturers using the small base, dim bulbs in order to comply with the inane edict. The small base bulbs complied with the "energy-efficient" mandate, so that is why those useless light kits became the standard for the fan light kits. --73.40.xxx.xx

I Believe you can buy adapters that can convert the smaller bases to a standard base. It may make the light stick out further though, however most of the bulbs that I see that are 60 W to 100 W equivalent LEDs are shorter than the old incandescent bulbs so it might work --96.236.xxx.xx

I scored at an auction few years ago. It looked like someone removed all the lighting sections of ceiling fans and there was eight sets or so the glass light fixtures and corresponding light sockets along with a bunch of misc screw hardware.

Now initially I bought the collection of them - a small pallet of "stuff" noticing the glass cover pieces. I thought when I bought it - that at $7 or $8 for the collection, if I use just one of the glass covers that I would only have to store them till they got used up.

Well I still have about half of them still left. The diameters of the section that slips in are not exact but a little work with some nettle nose and the pressed dimples straighten out. The three inch piece slips right in and the screw holes will line up. --24.101.xxx.xx

You can. I am now starting to find them coming back. Like Sparky said. If was the government that made them change to be more energy efficient.

Since it is hard to find high wattage bulbs with the small base. They assumed it would save energy.

Since Led bulbs are popular. They are allowed to change back to the medium/regular base bulbs.

But they added a wattage limiter. So cant put in a incandescent bulb larger than 60 watts. No problem since a LED 60 watt version uses 10 watts or so.

You are just finding some old models. We just you Hunter and Hampton Bay. But still have to be careful not to get the older small base models.

Then either remove the simple wattage limiter or remember to tell tenants to use only LED bulbs

You need to go up a notch from the $35-$50 fans. We've found some good ones at Home Depot in the $60-80 range that take normal medium base light bulbs. --69.245.xx.xxx

bo stepped into our homes and ordered us not to use incandescent. A whole US factory was shut down and only a place in Hungary shipped here and the bulbs did not last long. Stinky twirly bulbs arrived that could not take a shade and stunk when they went bad and were full of mercury so could not be recycled. That's typical of the D stripe. They dont think things through and do great harm like giving 200K mortgages to people with poor credit and no clue. --71.104.xx.xxx

I haven't shopped for fans lately, but I did try to find a 40W, appliance bulb (incandescent). No luck, nowhere. Only LED bulbs all over. I need the 40W incandescent to go in my collection of Lava Lamps.I use them for 'night lights'. Pretty and fun to watch when you are totally bored. The LED type don't heat up and the wax won't melt so I must have 'hot' bulbs. Never thought I'd need to stockpile appliance bulbs. --72.199.xx.xxx

I bought and installed a bunch of these before I noticed the small base. The bulbs kept burning out because of the fan vibration, but the bulbs designed for vibration didn't fit.

I found adapters on Amazon for pretty cheap and installed them. Problem solved. --104.230.xxx.xx
