I just ran a comparison on cabinet prices for a basic12' kitchen. White shaker style.

Lowes with 36 high uppers = $2097

Menards, with 30" uppers = $1797 after 11%

Ava (the wholesale.contractor division of LilyAnn) 42" uppers, Must assemble but includes soft close doors and drawers, dovetail joints, much better quality than Lowes or Menards) = $2075 delivered.

Ava gets the order.

Downside is the assembly part. My sister did her first kitchen that way. She spent 2 days assembly... kitchen install took half a day.

But it is interesting to see the price difference. My guess in the coming years, you will start to see this climb in price... --76.77.xxx.xxx

We use a lot of the RTA cabinets. Once you get the hang of it they take about 10-15 minutes to get assembled. We always use a bit of wood glue & add a 2x4 support under all of the 24" & wider bases. --71.174.xxx.xx

I am also a fan of RTA cabinets. usually get a better cabinet for the money. I also allow 20 - 30 minutes assembly per cabinet.

Since we also glue and add a little extra support where needed.

Only downside. Is they are all made in China. And no way to buy a quart or gallon of the exact touchup paint. To repair any tenant damage. Or common for us to have to modify one to fit. And make our own filler strips or something.

You just have to try and get close. Having the paint matched locally. But if you have to repaint a whole door. That will stick out from across a room unless a perfect match.

So now we are getting unfinished cabinets for a good price locally. Painting ourselves. Just so we can cut down on maintenance and match the paint if needed.

RTA cabinets are the only economical way to avoid particle board sides, shelves, and drawer boxes. You get a much better product for the same money. --70.178.x.xx

We order from MFS Supply. Their primary market is large apt complexes. They offer RTA cabinets or will assemble them for free as long as you pick them up. For the price of HD's lowest-end line, we got plywood sides, full-overlay doors, dovetailed and soft-close drawers, and quality hardware. We went with the $75 delivery option for fully-assembled. They beat everyone else hands-down. --104.230.xxx.xx

The designer at HD said they have a new line. Marketed at the pro market. It is about 10% over the in stock cabinets. Plywood sides, soft close and full extension hardware. Wider selection of drawer bases. Only 30” uppers though. Thermofoil shaker in white and gray. ARRIVES in 12 days to Maine (usually shipping here takes 3-5 days longer). Designer said that they ship within 24 hours so you can’t make order changes. I looked them up when it popped up in the the pro rewards email but don’t recall the brand name. Be worth looking at. --70.16.xxx.xxx

My first try at RTA cabinets from another supplier was awful.

IKEA cabinets were even worse.

The AVA cabinets by Lily Ann averaged 10 minutes each for assembly and are great quality. A must for flips.
