Before going to work today we are giving our minds a much needed break with youtube.com. We have watched Road Runner cartoons, old commercials from the 50's and products from the 50's. We find it settles our minds and increases our positivity when all the world is going crazy.

What do you do to keep positive and take a break from the insanity?

Working on starting an ammo reloading business. There's a BIG demand. All those older people that are having a hard time finding work, this is easy for them. Flex time. Work when they want. Get paid for whatever they produce. This is a recession proof job in high demand. Pays well.

I'd really like to create an indoor firing range to help people learn to protect yourself, especially the older people. Think I'll call it Pistol Granny's. --75.7.xx.xx

Same as I don't have the patience to play chess or Monopoly, which both go on for ages. Quick one and done for me in almost everything.

I also just discovered TV Cable channel UKID (Universal kids) has a 'Roadrunner' type cartoon on every night for 3 hours of 'Mighty Mike'. Awesome, mindless entertainment gets me laughing out loud. Pug Dog Mike, a cute kitten, a 'girl next door dog' and 3 turtles all tying to keep the house together as 2 raccoons (named Freddy and Mercury) try to steal everything. Can't figure out why it's so funny, but it takes my mind off everything else. --72.199.xx.xxx

Dee Ann,

Ammo reloading takes the used shell casings from already fired ammo and loads new rounds into these casings. There's plenty of info available to do this. Basic equipment is not very expensive. You just get the parts (shell casings, powder, primers, bullets, etc) and follow the steps.

Many rounds now sell for $1.00 per round or more with larger rounds as much as $5.00 or so, if you can find any for sale. Every store that sells this stuff I've been by in the last year has 50 to 100 vehicles parked in their lot. Many are out of items to sell. With some practice, if you set it up like an assembly line,I think a person could make 50 or more rounds an hour. Even if costs were 50 percent, that's $25 per hour to do this. Way better than retail sales or a gas station or fast food job. Recession proof. Huge demand. --75.7.xx.xx

I like to go to my property in the country and just spend time there working or doing whatever by myself. Peoples biggest problem is other people. If you were to look at the other end of every problem you will find a human attached or a natural disaster on occasion. I would bet that animals see the same thing. Grins....

However, there are those moments when humans are helpful. I got off track. Not hard for me to do.

The thing that I like most about watching the old movies is paying attention to the old vehicles and houses and the interior of the houses. Sometimes you can catch some really rare vehicles that there were only a few made. If you watch one of the first Shirley Temple movies ( I don't remember which one), at the beginning of the movie you will see a first generation Mack truck and can hear it run. They were chain drive.

The old movies and shows are great relaxers. I also like the Honeymooners.

I hike in the hills above the ocean or walk on the beach almost every day to stay sane during our upside-down world event. Little hard for 4 people to social distance on a 40' boat, lol. A cruising friend died of covid a few months ago and the disease just got very personal for us again last week when our long-time dancing friend died on 11/13 after several weeks in the hospital (young 60s, otherwise perfect health). His widow is still struggling to recover. After that sobering news so we are insisting on clean covid status before casting the dock lines. Other than that, my husband's contracting jobs and good weather outdoors is keeping us at least marginally active and functional, lol. And, we stopped watching news or network tv which helped immensely. Just not being bombarded all day and night with blah blah blah made a huge difference. Stay well, all! JAC, I'll tell you a secret. I have a family member who's an elected official. They're GOP, too--- but is only GOP because that's what gets elected in their district, not because they hold the values. There's a word for people like that... :P

That's where a lot of this came from. Everyone knows that in DC, there's a lot of posturing for the camera, and a lot of political theatre, but at the end of the day, there's not a lot of difference between the people with an R next to their name or a D next to their name. That's why stuff like the Tea Party happened after 2008, because R's only tolerated their conservative base for the votes, but didn't actually work to promote a conservative agenda, whether it was social conservatism, fiscal conservatism, or whatever.

The best they could give us a few years ago were candidates like McC and Romney, because those were the people who they said so. Even though bathwater was less tepid than the popular support they had as candidates, they got muscled through and deemed as the party's candidates even before the primaries were fully over-- gotta support the nominee! --and went on to lose.

That's why the people were irritated enough in 2016 to allow the party to be hijacked from the outside. They were so sick of professional politicians that they were willing to give the most powerful job in the world to a total outsider, even though we were supposed to have lined up behind Jeb Bush and gone on to let him lose, too. And during the first two years, the GOP didn't do anything to lift a finger to help... and after losing the senate, they continued to be pretty useless. So not only did he have to fight the D's, but he had to fight the R's. And in the meantime, the news cycle for 3 or 4 solid years was Russian collusion, contrasted with "nothing to see here, you're paranoid and hallucinating, we're not even going to spend a day talking about this..."

And that's why everyone who's upset is upset, because we see what's happened. The people were able to elect whoever they felt like. Well, the people can't be trusted, so the votes don't matter... just the counting of the votes. That's what they do in third-world countries... The political theatre isn't just posturing for the cameras, now, but it's disenfranchising millions of voters because we don't think correctly.

If our guy lost honestly, we'd be willing to take it. We don't loot, riot, or burn stuff. We're used to losing, and we get on with our lives, and we show up at the next election. :) But we don't want to lose because "gosh we won't update vote counts for the next 27 hours, this is totally normal".

That's not how stuff is supposed to work here, and we know what countries look like where it does. --137.118.xx.xxx
