Just maybe a point of intrest(?)
My porch light is left on,..day and night, not sure of the wattage but I think I remember it was 15w,..so I didn't worry about the power comsumpton . This was my 1st house, now my office.
Its a small floresent one that is incased in a bullet like plastic covering. The only time it has been off is a few power outtages. Otherwise it has lighted the porch ,....since 1976!
I don't know if its any record or not for florenscents,..I've not had nearly as good luck with others,

Goes to show that turning on and off a bulb and causes surges and demands on the element/workings, cuts down it's life. A fire station somewhere in California has an original 1920's incandescent bulb still shining... --47.155.xx.xxx |

i remember that report on the news too, Robert J. I have a tiny white bulb in a switch that has been there for 15 years at least. There are light fixtures in the ceiling of the basement and I have never changed one of those bulbs and after 1998 my mother could not have either. Too bad BO closed the factory that made those and made us get the expensive disgusting curly bulbs. He stepped right into our homes that time. --71.104.xx.xxx |

ms Ally,
I don't know where you are buying bulbs but in the past I have gotten MANY of the curly floresent ones at the dollar store, (Dollar Tree) for,...a dollar , they still have them and they are NOT like the early bluish ones and now are pretty close to reg incandesent ones,..normal daylight
But better yet I get the LEDs from there for the same price,
they are 100w incandesent equivants,..for unfished basement I get those "Y" adaptors that screw in and give you sockets for 2 bulbs,..they last so much longer than the old incansesants and for summer,..don't add to the heat load as muck,..really light up the cellars/garages. Also don't blow fuses as they are VERY low wattage. Most are 15/20w
We use them too in nice table lamps we have in out living and dinning room,. although my wife thinks that I over do the amount of light,..but I generall like a lot of light until maybe late at night when we are winding down,.. try em,..for a buck its hard to go wrong,. --66.30.xx.xxx |
