The incident made headlines over the summer when a group of protesters managed to stop what officials had blasted as a heartless and illegal eviction of tenants from the three-story LGBTQ-friendly brownstone. Days earlier, on July 2, Brooks-Church, 49, had aggressively barged into the home that he and his ex had allegedly illegally converted into a multi-family rental property and “yelled at the tenants that they needed to pay their rent,” the lawsuit states . . .

My daughter lives in a 2 unit building in Chicago. Her downstairs neighbor has not paid rent since June. Tenant told landlord that she would pay December rent. My daughter thinks her landlord needs a backbone. But she really has no recourse. Tenants financial situation apparently has not changed due to Covid because it is SS. Landlord is trying to sell the building. One of the prospective buyers that came through said the downstairs apartment smells like dog poop. Another said they weren’t interested in a building with a non-paying tenant. It’s a cute apartment. --70.16.xxx.xxx |
