Here's a new one for me. I'm putting some lipstick on a SFH that I'm going to put on the market. Like most one story slab houses with forced air heat and air, the registers are in the ceiling. It has the round ring registers with the chain that opens/closes a door to adjust the airflow.

I take down the covers to paint the ceiling and some goober has ripped out the door on half of the registers. I'm guessing the chain broke sometime in the last few years and rather than calling for maintenance they simply removed the cover and ripped the door out and put the cover back.

None of the move-in pictures captured the vents in question. I mean who would have thought to take a picture inside the air vents. So, I don't know if the current tenant or a previous tenant did it so I'm hesitant to charge against the deposit. I have about 2 foot of blown in insulation in the attic that is going to be a mess to climb through to replace those dang things, sigh. Oh well, guess I'll be taking pictures of the registers at move-in in the future.

We have those round vents but they are not operated by a chain. It's a twist stick that works from the bottom instead of up in the attic. You might be able to replace your older version with these. Then you don't have to go up in the attic. --72.84.xxx.xxx

Interesting. If it’s simply replacing the cover that would be an easy fix. I’ll have to see if I can find such a device. --107.77.xxx.xx

If they liked it that way, maybe the next tenant will, too?

Are you sure it's worth it? --70.160.xxx.xxx

MikeA,

Selling? Comfirm each vent is open, clip off the chain. Sell.

New covers is an easy way to make the home look better.

You guys are right. I was working in one of the rooms and it was hot compared to the rest of the house but once I get the covers on the rest where the door will open it should even out. I’ve always used a little steel wool and then appliance paint to make the old ones look new. Takes as long as measuring and a trip to the parts store and is cheaper. --107.77.xxx.xx

Maybe the farthest ones from the unit are simply not flowing well enough, this would be more pronounced in summer with a/c flow but the termination WMH suggested is used often till the twisty thing falls out and gets tossed into the recycle weekly can. --76.188.xxx.xxx
