I have a double wide concrete driveway that is quite broken up. My money saving scheme (?) is to sweep up the broken debris and apply a loose mixture of concrete on the broken areas. Has anyone done this? If so how did it go?

Class D property? Sure , do as you say, but keep in mind poor curb appeal. Will likely only get you down the road a couple years. I’ve patched several concrete drives. Also replaced many. The complete replacement looks much better then the patches. --66.169.xxx.xxx |

I've done repairs to cracked driveways for years. As a contractor I have to know a trick or two. To make a repair last, I have to make sure the dirt under the driveway under a crack hasn't sunken. So at times I'll inject concrete slurry mix to fill under the cement and then use it also to fill the crack. Later use a diamond wheel to smooth out the surface. --47.155.xx.xxx |

Melinda,
You do understand that concrete pours for driveways are four inches thick or thicker? That will be some patch. --24.101.xxx.xx |

The problem with that idea is concrete does not ‘stick’ to concrete. Do some investigation, you will see. There are some things you can do to help, additives, etc, but all very temporary. --142.54.xx.xxx |

It’s only going g to be a bandaid, and depending on how you do it 1 that will fall off quickly! Dig it up, have a base of crusher run put down, then pave it. For the concrete to last past this winter you will have to dig up what’s there, lay down a good base, then pour a 4 inch slab. --173.48.xxx.xxx |

Melinda, what is the biggest hole? Is your concrete flaking and shale like or just lots of cracks? Flaking concrete indicates it's integrity is shot. Cracks can be filled with self leveling crack filler, not cheap for a large area but it will bridge gaps; prefill w. stone dust so you are filling 1" deep. Large holes can be filled with high strength concrete but you have to pour it at last at the depth of the existing pad.
You could also just sweep stone dust in the voids.
If you choose to put concrete, spray the area w/ muriatic acid and rinse. Coat the old concrete with concrete 'milk'. You can even mix some milk into the concrete in place of water. If you do put new concrete now then don't salt the driveway in the winter. --24.194.xxx.xxx |
