So my landlord left me a phone message saying he is going to terminate my lease due to my room being messy. However he entered my room when I was at work and also without any notice. Correct me if I am wrong, but what he did is illegal because he entered my room without my consent or notification.

Try speaking (respectfully) to your LL, speaking to him about your concerns and ask him for another chance to "make things right" if you would like to stay.

Otherwise, simply pack up your things an find another place to call home. --73.25.xx.xxx

Sam,

I also wonder what your living situation is. Are you in a motel, rooming house, a private residence? Not that it really matters that much.

Is your room so filthy that it stinks out in the hallway, and made him wonder if a dead body could be in there? That would be an emergency reason to enter without notice. (Seriously - I've seen it/smelled it).

Really, if your room is so dirty that someone can't stand to have you live there any more - learn to clean and be responsible for yourself and the health and comfort of those around you. And give them a break and leave - do better at your next place.

Why be more concerned with whether you can find a legal technicality against someone rather than look at yourself and fix what is wrong - the real problem, your filth.

Your "landlord" doesn't want a pig living in his house? Imagine that.

Move out, learn to pick up after yourself so it doesn't happen at the next place, too. Nobody want to live with a slob. --76.178.xx.xx

That sounds a lot like a lodger. Someone who rents a room in their landlord's house is under different rules and regulations than someone who rents an entire house where their landlord does not also live.

It's going to vary from state to state, but in general, it's far easier to get rid of a lodger than it is a tenant. Don't give them a reason to want to. --137.118.xx.xxx

Well if there were any insects or rodents found it is completely justified under very common health rules, clean your room - my mother always reminded me of that and put your dirty clothes in the laundry hamper, when I was younger I used to play baseball and when muddy slacks fold the clumps fall off. --76.188.xxx.xxx
