recently had to hire a local licensed plumber to repair a sewer line under the street/price seemed VERY high but bids I got were all close to each other/ 1 plumber defended his price telling me he couldn't use the same dirt that came out of the hole to fill the hole cause it wouldn't pack right/ had to haul it off & bring in new dirt/ any truth to it or was he bs-en to get his price? I never heard of such a thing --173.233.xxx.xxx

Depends on a few different things, in the street generally after digging up for a sewer line we haul away the material, chink 3/4 stone around the new line, top the line with about a foot of 3/4 stone (Per code), backfill with crusher run (Compacting in lifts), then pave it. Off the street we chink and top with 3/4 stone (same as in the road) and backfill with the material we excavated, then top with loam and seed. That’s how I do it anyway, been doing site and utility work for 25 years. --173.48.xxx.xxx

Hmmmm Under the street? You might want to check in with the sewer authority. The local authorities around here are responsible for UNDER the road, where you are responsible to the road. They don't want to be liable for any road damage your plumber could cause to the road --24.101.xxx.xx

Samo here as PA. Property ends at TAP-- the place the yard line connects tot eh sewer tap--- and that's usually 10 feet from the curb in to the yard.

I had one that hooked up in the back yard of the neighbors-- water authority did all that and paid.

I would suggest you call the water authority and get the correct info. This is why? if you did without the water people there to witness it and the problem is on THEIR side -- they won't pay for it. I've had several I wouldn't dig until the MAN was there and low and behold it was the connection on the city side-- yea a real shocker. Saved us 25 to 2600.00 dollars. --99.103.xxx.xxx
