good laugh (by small potatoes [NY]) Posted on: Oct 17, 2020 4:34 PM

on my prescreen vm a woman calls I can't quite make out everything she says w/ her accent but wants to know if the 1 br is available because garbled audio wants to move out and needs to find a room, has a good job. I play it a few times and realize she is looking for a place for her EX, Ha! I'm sure he wants to move out. She wants him GONE. Never had the other party in a split looking

to rehome them. I got a good laugh.

Needless to say she didn't follow the vm instructions, so I won't be following up.

I get the challenged wood-be renter calling my ads on a lame cell phone with 1 bar connection. I can't understand or make out their call back number. Their number is blocked! I save those calls and transfer all messages to a tape recorder so I can use as a defense for "discrimination" -- not renting to a person with an accent and limited use of the English language. I had no way to call them back but the "Free Legal Aid" attorneys want to sue me for a quick $5,000-$20,000 settlement.

Was subbing at the school, so my voicemail caught a call. I read the transcription-- someone's sister looking for a home for her brother (who got a job at the local factory and was relocating to be close to it) and his wife (who's a nurse) and they have three dogs and two cats and one cat is disabled because it just broke its leg...

I was very disappointed that I didn't have anything to offer them at the moment, goshdarnit.

Someone here a few years ago labeled eviction court as the -center for re-homing tenants-, I use that phrase sometimes when I file, tell the clerk I must re-home these folks with the blessing from the judge.

Saw a number on pop up on my phone but they hung up quickly. Guess they recognized the number after dialing?

The number started with XX which means a bad ex-tenant. Also the unit number and name.

Looked her up one of the last people we ever evicted, end of 2011. Left owing $1800 (rent was $1450, so not a horrible amount.)

Single mom, no assets, no recovery.

But she DID show up in court to fight her eviction, with 2 young children, complaining of mold.

Judge asked, 'Did you pay the rent? No? Out you go.'

She & her friend stopped us in the hall and begged to pay us the full amount due so they could stay. Tomorrow.

We told them life was too short, get out. They did. We said we will pay you $100 cash if you leave the place clean. They did!

When I get a call and because language difficulties I canít understand them I just ask them to have someone who speaks English call me back. They never called back.
