Any of you use any type of Title Lock on your properties?

I have been getting a lot of solicitations on my properties and some on houses I dont even own. If I was down on my luck, I'm sure I could con him out of a cash deposit and flee the area.

I am wondering if I should consider putting some type of freeze on the four properties I own..

Thanks for any advice. --70.169.xx.xxx

I've heard the radio advertisements for Title Lock protection, but I didn't look up what was involved. According to this attorney, your title insurance most likely will cover:

In one area it was common for thieves to try to steel title to a rental, then sell it quickly for a cash deal. To protect myself, I got from my bank a "Line of Credit" so the bank would put a lien on the title and no one could steel title from me without my banks getting my release to cancel the line of credit.... --47.155.xx.xxx

Around here the county has a FREE program that will notify you if anyone tries to file anything on your property. I believe it does pretty much the same thing as anything that might involve your property or name shows up and the county notifies you. --24.180.xx.xx

My GUESS is that this is just a scam preying on the vulnerable. But I feel the same way about the various credit protection programs as well.

To steal your title, the criminal would need to record a notarized deed in your name. Of course, there are crooked notaries, but except for the commercials for Title Lock, I have not heard of any rash of title thefts.
