Our most recent rehab has a fiberglass shower stall that we don't want to replace yet. Unfortunately, it's that off white color that was so popular say, 20 years ago. The rest of the house is SW Repose Gray and white trim. Any ideas on a color for the bathroom that will go with gray AND off white?

You can buy water proof fiberglass paint. Some are epoxy based while others are oil based. The last shower stall I painted I used a special bonding primer, between $65 to $100 per gallon. It sticks to fiberglass like glue and will allow a painting over it... --47.155.xx.xxx

Robin,

White becomes ivory and tan with age. A good scrub MIGHT help remove some nicotine.

Paint: griege. Tan/gray.

Try a few drops of tan or brown in some gray?

Tidbit: we use semigloss in bathrooms.

My house has the bone color you are talking about. Just had a heck of time finding a couple of bone replacement toilets.

One bath we did in SW Comfort Gray. The next color down from that is extremely popular, SW Sea Salt. Either would look great.

Another really nice color is BM Gray Mirage.

If you want to stay more neutral, try SW Incredible White. It has a griege tone to it that would also go well.

Get a nice shower curtain to co-ordinate with whatever color you choose. --173.188.xx.xxx

For what it's worth--- our master bath seemed to be done in sort of a bone-color. Bone-colored tub, bone-colored toilet, etc. We decided to replace the toilet, and I was sorry that it was white. It wasn't going to match anything...

We installed it, and it magically became bone-colored. That's when I realized the effect of the yellow wallpaper in that room. :P --137.118.xx.xxx

We replace sinks and commodes, but tubs in good condition, no matter the color, do not get replaced. He replaces showerheads, shower curtains roads and other hardware, and we hang a coordinating shower curtain to cover most of the tub when closed. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Don't worry about it. No one is going to reject a house that they like just because they don't like the color of the shower.

Put in a pretty shower curtain that has some color. If the walls are grey, get a print that has maroon, or denim blue, and match the towels to the shower curtain.

Seriously, no one is going to notice the color of the shower stall. They will notice if it is scummy dirty, but if it is nice and clean, they won't care about the color.

That ivory or bone color actually goes well with gray. I was in an expensive model home that had gray walls with a light yellow trim and it looked super. --76.178.xx.xx

On those tv shows they paint the walls the same ugly color if the bathtub so it blends in. Find a color like that. --99.203.xx.xxx

Ya might even wax the walls so the shine gleams clean. And i agree shower curtain and light staging. People dont care so much but an empty house shows all details. Clean and bright. --99.203.xx.xxx

Have you tried the Repose Gray just to see what it looks like? You might be surprised. It is a very neutral color designed to go with almost anything. --70.178.x.xx

I agree with Woodsmoke; people will not notice the color difference, and especially like Plenty mentions light staging and nice shower curtain.

I drove myself crazy on the details of a rehab. When the right people came through, nothing bothered them except not getting the house. There were so many things I felt sure they would see to nix the deal, but no, not at all. --75.11.xx.xx

Google "color wheel" and you can find something that will work with it. I'm thinking a "bone" white may be ok. --99.92.xxx.xxx

Repose is a bit beige-y grey it might just go. Otherwise I would keep the white trim and go even more griege or match the shower. Nice shower curtain with a design / print / scene to notice that takes attention away from the shower.
