I just got a phone call because a tenant “refused” to answer. Current tenants weren’t living there 4/1. I agreed to give number of people and gender only. The person initially wanted name, birthdate, race, etc but then admitted most property managers would only give # of people and gender. Has anyone else gotten these calls?

I had one come up to me during the last census at my six unit building and asked me about specific names in specific units. I said I'm not going to answer that. And she tilted her head back and looked at me and asked why? I said that's peoples personal privacy. I said you're welcome to knock on doors, but I'm not gonna give that information to you. --174.249.xx.xx

I had one today asking about our downstairs apartment. I told her she was a year-round resident, a female, and that she was Caucasian. She didn't ask for anything else. --50.82.xxx.xxx

That is simply a invasion of privacy where explain due to privacy concerns will not give out that information. If that is a official government census then forms will be mailed. Suppose a town or city wants to increase property taxes then they feel rental housing providers are making too much profit. Many times when asking for a reference with owners or property managers they would give out specifics about past tenants where would not recommend. Rent arrears along with damages were never brought up. A business is a private concern where people who live there should have privacy protected. There are lot of leftist nuts out there who feel that rental housing does not belong to the private sector. --147.194.xxx.xx

We have been getting calls from census takers for the last month or two for our properties. The person calling said they could not catch anyone at home.

I told the census people that I was not comfortable giving out information on our tenants, and that they would just have to try and catch the tenant when they could.

I don't think we are legally bound to give out the information; we won't even give it out on us!

I don't give that kind of information out over the phone. However if I happen to be on site & the person has the proper credentials I'll tell them the number of adults & children there. --71.174.xxx.xx

I don't even give them my information. Show me the person that's in jail or the big fine for not filling it out and MAYBE I'll consider it. --66.30.xx.xxx

they must be doing catch up. I had a phone number today from Census. I don't know how they got my info other than public records.

The issue they had with one of my apartments was when they went to the door the tenant's refused to answer questions - because they answered at their prior residence. Apparently, the info they are seeking is as of April 1. My place was vacant then. I told her so and that was it. Perhaps they do an extra layer of verification. --72.70.xxx.x

Similar situation Nicole but technically the previous tenant was there through the April 3rd. --107.77.xxx.xx

Yes. I had a census worker call about a particular house. (A local person who I know from their activity on the local FB pages.) I explained that the people who lived there were wind farm guys, so that wasn't their permanent address-- they were probably counted elsewhere.

I also had census papers left at two vacant houses. I meant to fill them out and say the houses were vacant, no one was there, but I never got around to it. --137.118.xx.xxx

Last census worker I saw was rather ugly in a dress and unusually tall and her ID was on a lanyard around her neck so I looked down to make verify that it was a census ID. When I looked up to compare the pic on the ID with the persons face.......well I noticed she had a thicker beard than me.

I was a bit shocked and stammered a bit. She might be a she now. I am not sure what was going on. Told her/him that I was a bit tied up at the moment --24.101.xxx.xx
