I do stain and poly separately, but I know when I don't wipe up my stain afterwards, it can take a week or longer to dry.

Are you doing an all-in-one? --137.118.xx.xxx

So I have refinished about 30 homes with wood floors. I always use PRO oil base finish, with great results.

Except once...I used Minwax super fast...never again. Took almost 2 weeks to dry, and still was not a 100%. You could still press your fingernail into it and leave a mark. I called Minwax and they basically said I put too much on at one time. Possibly, but I used the same wool applicator I had used for the other homes and the only difference was the poly. Good luck. Nothing you can do but hope it dries soon. I was afraid to turn on the furnace, as I did not want to blow dust on my new gloss finished floor. --174.232.xx.xxx

Not cured?

Sounds like there was not enough catalyst in the batch or that the catalyst might be old and lost it's effectiveness.

I used to own a company back in the early 70's that made tables for restaurants, the cable spool type where we put different objects on the top then covered them with casting resin then finishing resin. One time a batch of them had this problem and would not cure but remained "sticky". I had to throw away the entire batch. In that case it was the catalyst (or my not using enough of it --it's been almost 50 years since it happened).

Of course now the companies likely make the product so that you don't need to mix it, so maybe as you thought, it needs to be warmer or just more time. --24.180.xx.xx

Must the same batch used last spring. I’ve done several floors down to bare wood and scuffed and put fresh coats on many more. This particular floor has a streaked and bubbly look in the middle.

I would try the fans and opening the windows. Get some fresh air in there. Maybe alternate the fresh air with heat. --71.161.xxx.xxx

There are different products, mostly oil base and some water base. Drying time is determined on how much product you apply per coating.

When I apply the 1st coating, I allow it to be sucked into the wooden planks, then use a soft cloth and wipe it dry-ist to the touch. This thin layer will dry over night so long as you're not located in Alaska or a cold climate.

Then I will apply a second coating, sparingly. Let that dry and then a 3rd coat.

I can get all coats to dry within 4 to 5 days.. BUT IT's THE SMELL THAT'S THE KILLER... OIL base stinks and you will need to run fans to air it out... Add ac couple of days for that process.... --47.155.xx.xxx

Should take no more than 24 hours. I do a lot of woodworking, and it is important for each layer to dry before applying the next. For instance the stain must be fully dry before you put the poly on (not sure if you stained it too). Sounds like you are doing all the right things...check the date on the product...perhaps if it's very old it may have lost some of the VOCs.

As a side note, I installed a new vanity top and used silicone caulk just like I always have. Two days later it was still runny and not cured. I found out the caulk was 15 months old even though I'd just bought it at Lowes a week before. I've since learned how to read the "made on" date for each caulk manufacturer....and if I have extra tubes I return them rather than keeping them for the next job. --99.92.xxx.xxx

I just repaired and re-finished a hardwood floor for the first time. I went back and forth about water vs oil but went with oil. Two coats and it looks great. 24 hours between coats with no A/C at 80F. I ran a fan but could have probably gotten away with not doing so. Smell wasn't that bad and was ready to go in 72 hours after the last poly coat. --50.5.xxx.xx
