I just bought and am in the process of installing Eufy motion activated cameras around my personal residence. They send notification right to my wife's and my phone.
If someone is outside, we can speak to them from anywhere we have cell phone reception through a microphone & speaker that is mounted on every camera. It also has a panic siren that we can operate from the phone. It also has night vision and flood lights. We can turn the lights on and off from the phone as well.
We can look at any one of the cameras in real time right from my phone. During the day or with night vision at night.
I'm not sure how simplisafe works, but all you would need would be Wi-Fi at the units.
I will take some pictures and video and email them to you. --70.44.xxx.xx |

I use the base unit +2 motion sensors. I don’t worry about monitoring doors. --174.195.xxx.xxx |

I have a spare Simplisafe unit I use for vacant properties where rehab is going on. It will alert you when needed and you can arm and disarm with your app on the phone. You will need wifi there to use the camera option. Its great. Just one motion sensor in the main entrance area is enough for me but you can add more. --76.125.xxx.xxx |

The biggest problem with Chinese cameras besides the Chinese, is their lack of security. They're easily hacked. If you own Hikivision cameras, you might want to see if your house is displayed on this site of hacked camera feeds.

If I can get back on topic for a moment, a SimpliSafe or other camera system needs you to have wifi at the house under renovation, correct? How do you provide that?
What is the cost and equipment requirement to have a hot spot in your otherwise empty house? (I would already have the electricity on.) A wireless router and a land phone line? Or a physical cell phone that the router can piggyback on?
How do you secure the SimpliSafe unit and the wifi equipment from theft?
Once upon a time, I cut a hole in a wall, built a small shelf between the farming, put a DVD Recorder in the wall, and patched it up. Then, when the house was rented, I removed the DVD Recorder and re-patched the wall. I was not happy with that -- how can the mud dry if I remove the DVD Recorder the same day the new tenant takes possession? And how do I explain to the tenant my concern about theft and burglary, without convincing the new tenant that he is moving into a criminal hotbed? And I fretted about the wireless cameras getting stolen, since they were in plain sight, or moved by workers. Overall, this was not good!
OK, back to China. I agree with Jason that they'll need a lot of coffee if they are spying on me. But nonetheless, my computer camera is NOT plugged into the computer except when I am joining a conference. And my hard-wired modem is physically unplugged when I am not on-line. No reason to increase my exposure/vulnerability.
The first time my computer went on-line without my telling it to (an update scheduled by MicroSoft without my knowledge or permission), I was disturbed. And the on-off switch on the computer is NOT real, not like unplugging it. The first computer I built, the on-off switch turned off the power -- no more! Hal, are you there?

No wi-fi needed. The Simply safe base unit is actually a cell phone that alerts the alarm service when activated and the alarm service can call you or the police department.
I choose not to worry about doors and let the motion sensing units trigger the alarm. --99.23.xxx.x |

Besides being a contractor I'm also a Ham Radio Operator. The Simplisafe systems I've examined operate via radio frequency. I was able to "override" their signal and made the door or window sensor inoperable. Breaking into the property and defeating the alarm.
This brand may be good for a rental, but it will not protect the property from a thief who really wants to go inside... --47.155.xx.xxx |

Lynn, I was into RTTY and using World War Two surplus gear. A TCS-13 submarine transmitter and receiver. BC-224 receiver with a Lunch Box transmitter using crystals, before I made a VFO. When I was 13 it was 1973... The MARS programs was coming to an end and they donated teletypes and fax machines to my school. We had a radio club... Later I got a hand held 2 meter transceiver to access the repeater to send and receive teletype pics and messages.

They will be able to pick up bio-metric pictures of you,
your family, approximate your location, make estimates of when you're home, see your nice tool collection, whatever.
What John says is true as far as installing Chinese equipment. You're already setting it up to be spied on by having the cellphone notification.
I appreciate my privacy too much to put in a cheap Chinese video system, especially without a properly managed firewall, etc. --65.129.x.xxx |

Ken, Yes, we use SimpliSafe at flips.
We set the motion detectors on the kitchen counter, window sill, etc
We also use the door sensors cuz why not - they install with double stick tape. BUT summer heat will loosen the tape, the sensor falls, and the alarm is triggered.
Experts (thieves in prison) say the sign and door stickers are a good deterrent, even if no alarm. They look for alarms like the big names that are hardwired to phone lines that can be cut. They avoid wireless systems. We run a screw in the window track to keep them from being pried up.
Recently I have been leaving the system for the seller, listing it as an amenity. I set up 4 pass codes so I can see who enters , when.

Impressive. We were trying to start a club in high school with an old set of Halicrafters but never got off the ground. We had a nice club in college with 2 stations and 2 repeaters and I worked the space shuttle and 2 communications majors filmed it and sent it to the local news. --66.30.xx.xx |

If anyone can point me in an exact direction to why I should be concerned, please do. They are mainly for nighttime use as an early warning and can be turned on and off as needed. --70.44.xxx.xx |

Lynn, here in Los Angeles we had the San Fernando Radio Club besides my junior high radio club. I loved going on treasure hunts looking for hidden transmitters.
One year they placed a transmitter in a baby carriage and the transmitter had a kill switch on the stroller's handle. When they see a ham going by with an antenna stick out of the car, they would stop transmission.
Another year they had the transmitter on a raft on the L.A. reservoir, operated by remote.
These hunts made the smart NASA Ham's make better directional antenna's. Since I was an expert on AM signals, finding a SSB carrier was a breeze.
