I have an area in front of my home that is bordered by some decorative bricks. I would like to kill off everything that grows there (weeds) long term so that I can put mulch down and not worry about weeds for awhile. I've tried landscape fabric in the past but I hate that stuff and found it doesn't work perfectly.

Has anyone tried one of those products that claims it can prevent new weed growth for up to a year? They are expensive (about $40) but I thought maybe it would be worth trying.
