Global Warming? For those in the know the cloud covering the earth-- whether from fires, volcano's or nuclear attack-- causes the suns rays to reflect back off the cloud cover and causes global cooling and possible the next ice age.

The OL' for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

When Mount Tambora erupted it caused a cloud cover so thick it snowed in July on the east coast (1815) and the potato failure in Ireland -- which brought my family here to the USA. The Twomey Effect.

Lets not forget he Mount Pinatubo and who could for get Montserrat -- if not for that we wouldn't have Jimmy Buffet!!!!! and the shrimp "they begin'in to boil"!

CA fires!!!!!! the recent equalizers.

Yes, and Solar Minimum is lasting longer than it should be. Still no sunspots. The few that showed up faded and now we have had more spotless days. Less energy is coming in. Scientists say that we are entering a period of low solar energy that could last thirty years. We were in a period of high solar energy from the 1950s until the last cycle ended in 2012. They don't see any glaciation recurring but it will be cooler and wetter in all cycles. Get those attics insulated and if you are building, put a lot of insulation in the walls. The past five years were a low energy cycle and the next layer of the atmosphere up is colder now that ever measured before. So tell the global warming folks to stuff it. Today someone showed me a NASA page that mentioned a change in the sun's orbit. I have to read up on that one. The drought in California is most likely caused by the loss of the Brazilian Rain Forest to coffee growers. --71.104.xx.xxx

I am still trying to figure out how there can be millions of acres of fires in CA every year and they never run out of forest to catch fire. I realize that the heat from the fires causes seeds to open and new growth begins but trees don't grow that fast. --73.120.xx.xxx

6x6, 48% of Californian land is owned by the federal government, not by state/local government. 57% of its forests are controlled by the federal government-- and there are 33M acres of forest total.

So, that's roughly an area the size of Louisiana that's just forested, unpopulated land. 35% of it is forested; 25% of it is deserts; and I can't find a fast and easy cite about how much of it is mountains.

But that's one of the reasons why everyone is crammed so much into densely populated pockets, rather than spreading out a little more evenly through all their space... because California only "owns" about half of its territory; has limited amounts of non-desert/mountain land to build on anyways; and they have very firm ideas about land development and management on top of it all. --137.118.xx.xxx

Global warming is a reality where remember the winters around the sixties and seventies were more severe along with more snow where a few days there was massive snow. Now those days rarely happen along with there is less snow as the temperature goes above 0 Celsius more often. When in the winter driving 50 Kilometers south cross the snow line where as the temperature was above freezing there is no snow. Slowly putting more insulation in the house where getting rid of fiberglass insulation which has mold then spray foaming along with chalking the joints where there a perfect air seal along with installing a reflective bubble wrap before installing new drywall. In the eighties energy efficiency was not a priority where the solution was install a larger furnace. Going to spray foam the attic where all the fiberglass insulation will be taken out. Have a thermal camera where see the difference spray foam makes as there are no cold spots. Eventually if the price of electric cars come down then electric cars will be become main stream. In the city some routes are using electric buses which have no internal combustion engine. --147.194.xxx.xx

Robert in Canada, and where do people think the electricity for the cars is coming from? Dirty oil generation? Nuclear which is dirty later for a thousand years? Instead of tiny emissions spread out, electric cars bring ruination of a larger scale in a localized area. --71.104.xx.xxx

The earth is returning to normal status. For 60 million years, the entire central valley of California was under the ocean. And incidentally that was before humans existed, so humans didn't cause it, let alone being caused by the internal combustion engine.

60 million years of it, so that is the normal ocean water level, not what we've had for a few million years since.

Where I moved from, in Central Oregon there are petrified tropical rain forests.

But, I agree that Mother Nature will somehow figure out how to control human over population. Something will be coming in the future. --76.178.xx.xx

While electric cars are not completely environmentally friendly. Electric cars will be more common in ten years when more auto manufactures will produce. VW is focused on producing electric cars. Around the world electric buses are becoming more common. The grid will have to upgraded to DC high voltage transmission line where power from solar and wind can be transferred over large distances. It is expensive but possible to build or convert a house to net zero which does not require to be connected to the grid or gas line. There are no coal fired or oil fired generating stations in Ontario where they use gas turbine for the peaks. If houses had a storage system then during peaks gas turbine power stations would not be required. In Europe most of railways lines are electrified where passenger and freight use mostly electric locomotives. Take any building where over time it is possible to reduce energy consumption. Over the last twenty years reduced the amount of natural gas the house is using along with reduced the amount of natural gas the apartment buildings uses. Direct fired hot water tanks lose 7 to 12 degrees per hour as heat goes up the chimney. Indirect hot water tanks have a loss of less then one degree per hour. Where demand hot water heaters have no loss. --147.194.xxx.xx

Robert,Ontario , If the houses are sealed that air tight are they not going to develop moisture problems inside the walls? Don't houses need to breath? --73.120.xx.xxx

Robert, Ontario, when they are fixing the grid remind them of the Coronal Mass Ejection from the sun back in the 1800s that knocked out power all over and made the telegraph keys get hot and burned down some telegraph offices. And that time that the power was off in Canada and NE US for hours or days. They happen regularly but most of the time the earth is turned away thankfully. We could use a good one though as it has a lot of ultraviolet light with it to kill the c o v i d. I saw a report last night that the Far UV light is being used more now to kill virus etc. in hospitals. --71.104.xx.xxx

Allym Just read in paper this morning we started a new solar event named #25. will last til 2025 with average of only 115 events-- well below our 200+ we usually get.

Showed a photo of the sunwith and without activity-- very strange look. --99.103.xxx.xxx

MYOB, Yes, sunspots started returning last month but then stopped. The scientists are saying that the new cycle 25 will be much cooler than previous and may last through three cycles or about 30 years. So we need to be aware that our winters can be much cooler in some areas for the next 30 years. Thank goodness someone got more fuel sources for us because that would be used as blackmail by our enemies if we had to buy fuel all over the world.

The same scientists say that it probably won't be as bad as the worst cool cycle on record, the Maunder Minimum, which caused extreme cold in Europe. Maybe we will get some glaciers back and the "global warming" people will shut up, because the planet is generally not warming all over.

I started putting plastic film on my windows again. Had to turn the heat on this morning as it was 66 in here. Normal daytime temps for this date should be 75 degrees and it was 65 on my thermometer in the carport shade yesterday. --71.104.xx.xxx

Interesting we’ve had the longest stretch of ABOVE 90 degree days ever on record here in Colorado

Things are in flux. It could be that we may see more ten temperature extremes in both directions

Another interesting thought, I was discussing with a 9 year old, she stated that fire needs air to burn. And I agreed. Then she said that space has no air, so how does the sun fire keep burning? --193.27.xx.xxx

Um, yes, that is exactly what is happening. That is what Global Warming and Climate Change are about. People have it in their head that it means everything will just be warmer. That isn't the case. It is about BOTH ends -- hot and cold -- being more extreme.

As for the 9 year old (and yourself), we need "air" here on earth for things to "burn." That's not the case with the Sun -- it has no "flame", so it doesn't need oxygen. The Sun "burns" hydrogen and turns it into helium -- which causes nuclear fusion reactions at the core -- which gives off energy.
