Finally broke down and bought a truck. I'm tired of putting stuff in my SUV and my trailer is a hassle to use everytime I need to haul something I don't want to put in my SUV. I'm too cheap to spring on a $60,000 on a new one, so I looked around for a beater and found one. This one was well taken care of and I bought it for $ 2800. This is cheap on insurance and aftermarket and used parts makes it cheap to maintain. GM trucks are nearly bulletproof, so I had no hesitation getting a truck with 180k on it. This thing drives very well for a 20 year old car. --70.158.xxx.xx

My truck in an 04 dakota that I bought for $2800. It has 182k on it now. I bought it in 2015 after the 94 ranger I had for rear ended by a tractor trailer.

I had high hopes for the ranger. I got it for $1400 with 106k miles on it. Ran so smooth.

Older trucks are the way to go for this business. --174.198.xx.xx

I like those Dakotas also. I started to get one, but decided on a larger truck. Old trucks are definitely the ticket. This one will die of rust before it goes mechanically. --172.58.xxx.xxx

Got a 2000 Ford Ranger 279K - bought it used years ago - got all my tools and stuff in it for repair jobs - still runs good.

Last year got a deal on 08 F150 49K miles - paid 8K - that's my back up.

Ford man my self.

And as most on this site know - new is a very expensive way to travel - taxes and insurance to boot - just not worth it to me In fact I buy all my vehicles used - wife's Ford Expedition to - it's not being cheap - I call it smart - value conscience. --184.20.xxx.xx

I can buy 5-6 houses, maybe more for the price of a new truck.

One of the richest men I know locally just put $500,000 in escrow for attorneys to fight natural gas companies for messed up royalty payments. He refuses to spend over 10 grand on a vehicle. Always buys rangers.

That says something. --174.198.xx.xx

Two cars now. No SUV. No van. I let other people drive their trucks to my places. Subaru is only four blocks away if there is a problem so I have two of them. One is six cylinder Outback, leather seats. Rich guy turned it back in with 91 miles on it. Ford dealer is on dangerous Route One or another one 8 miles away. Sad. Batteries are too small on the Subs. --71.104.xx.xxx

PG, I don't buy new vehicles either. It's just a waste of money. An older vehicle is cheap to insure and there are tons of parts available if you have to repair. I get my parts from junkyards or from on line sources depending on what's needed. I had to put some new struts/shocks on. Got a set of KYBs for $250 from Tirerack and had them installed for $ 150. --209.122.xx.xxx

Smart decision (of course!) and a good deal. Not bad mileage.

When I bought my Ford Ranger a few years back it has about 237,xxx miles on it - for $3K. But, I bought it from a young gear-head with a FULL car shop in his garage who took care o it & had already replaced a couple big things. (clutch & transmission)

I expect at least another 100K or more miles out of it. That would take my lifetime, as I've only put about 2500 on it each year. --70.160.xxx.xxx

My Ram is going on almost 19 years now. I don't want to buy another one. I bought a manual from the OEM for it. I get compliments on it all of the time. It is original and in good condition. I do the maintenance myself. I don't want anyone else touching it. I get asked all of the time if I want to sell it. --73.120.xx.xxx

I like the larger ones also, I come out with most of my blood after repairing things and face it they all need to be fixed, now with 2004 f150 4x4 - just turned 88,000, 1994 club wagon 350 - 82,000 miles, the daily driver grand caravan - 162,000miles. --76.188.xxx.xxx

Ne--- I have been using my 1994 ranger since I got it in 1997. Upgraded springs and radiator, jasper rebuilt motor and tranny. Been hit hard several times and got paid by the other drivers' insurance. I make money on it! My places are on narrow streets in philly, so smaller trucks work for me. --69.248.xx.xx

I have owned 3 rangers. perfect for what I need a pick up for. am in process of buying a used 2006 with 67k miles..Ford made big mistake getting rid of that model. the “new” ranger is a stupid truck distracting sales from the 150...there is a reason ford continues to be in such dire straits. --107.77.xxx.xxx

must be an odd ball... no truck for me. I'll take a cargo van to work out any day over a van. You can store so much in there, stays dry, can secure it (lock it). Still put 4x8 sheets along the side, strap it. I started with '93 dodge ram van, went to a sprinter, then a promaster, now a 2018 Ford Transit. --76.77.xxx.xxx

I have a friend who also uses a utility truck for his landlording. It's covered and you can literally walk in there. It's like a rolling home depot as he has everything you'd need for a rental. It's a good idea as half of my time is spent running back and forth to the store to get stuff. --209.122.xx.xxx

Prior to this Silverado, I've not owned a GM product for nearly 40 years. I'm impressed with the reputation for durability of their Trucks. I keep my vehicles a long time but next time I'm in the market, GM is a definite consideration. My truck is solid considering it's 20 years old. --172.58.xxx.xxx
