This is something that you don't want to play with unless you have experience, tools and a volt meter. To answer your questions, your current outlet should have two hot's, a neutral and a ground.
It can be converted to a 120 volt standard outlet. But you'll have to choose the right poll and maybe change the breaker that controls this outlet now since it won't be a 240 volt with a double breaker....and you'll need a 120 volt single poll breaker instead.
Any electrician and skilled handyman can check it out and then recommend the proper solution. --47.155.xx.xxx |

The plug you’re referring to is called a NEMA 6-15 configuration.
Try googling window a/c with NEMA 6-15 configuration.
An electrician would have to lay eyes on the wire size that you have in place to know if it can be safely upgraded from 15. But finding a 240 vac 15 amp ac unit shouldn’t be a challenge. --73.12.xx.xx |

6-15 plug, many ACs still use this plug. The plug used differs based on the BTU size of the unit. Look at the 25000 BTU Frigdaire at Lowes. --64.130.xx.xxx |

If you are asking this kind of question, you should leave it alone. If you Google 220 volt window style AC unit, you should be able to find lots of them. In my area they are readily available at the big box stores as well as appliance stores.
If you are having trouble finding a replacement AC unit, you need to consult with a qualified electrician to either replace the outlet with another style of 220 one or rework the existing wiring & circuit protection to accept a 120 volt outlet. --71.174.xxx.xx |

I just experienced this exact same thing. My electrician wired it properly so tenant could use the AC unit with standard plug that he wanted to use.
This is after the tenant tried another plug and blew out the circuit, destroyed his garage refrigerator and some light fixtures and was telling me his “friend” would just put a different plug in his 110 ac unit so he could use the 220 plug! I sent my electrician over who chewed him out for me.
He wired it so it could be converted back one day if needed. --216.186.xxx.xx |
