Need to paint a wood cornice.
What paint to use?
Need to be long lasting and durable.
Bonus question: what color will look better after a couple of years or when it will start to peel again? --70.158.xxx.xx |

Libi,
We paint ALL exterior WHITE. It ALWAYS matches, easy to touch up, goes with anything.
Surface prep is everything. Spend an hour prepping and 10 minutes painting. Get it sanded and clean, use a top quality primer (bonding primer sticks to anything). Allow that to CURE 24 hours and top coat with top quality paint.
The higher the ladder the more I will spend on the paint so I don't have to come back!

I used to use Valspar Duramax due to primarily poor coverage I switched to SW Duration. Matching existing paint - my local SW dealer is very good.
BUT as Brad 20000 said you MUST do the proper prep, if you don't the paint will prematurely FAIL.
And as good painters know - people do poor or no prep and blame the premature failure on the paint. --184.20.xxx.xx |

I was asking for a best color because the cornice is too high for the ladder and we need to hire a lift. Not planning to retouch until the inspector will see damage. --174.204.xxx.xx |

I paint a bunch. Currently painting block that had pealing.
In this case the walls are only 12 tall. If I miss something and get pealing, I plan on doing touch up painting in the spring.
To me this is bridge painting. When I get to the end, I turn around and paint again.
Painting and cleaning are the two services my shacks require the most. Typically this is due to higher levels of wear & tear.
So I say if you can reach it with ease, just get a good quality paint.
If , like in your case, the painting is up the beanstalk then use one of the top shelf paints.

Also look for the primer that actually helps bond the previous old paint to help prevent chipping for any area you repaint. Zinsser peel stop. --108.4.xxx.xxx |
