Anyone else having trouble finding service people to do work lately?
Have calls in to 5 plumbers, and 4 carpenters in one area and several carpenters and 2 roofers in upstate Ny..NO one has called us back after a week or more.
Some have worked for us before and we paid them promptly and gave them no hassle while they worked.They seemed happy to get our work before, Seems so strange. --70.158.xxx.xx |

I wouldn't have waited 24hrs for a call back. I would have kept calling more people until I found someone who wanted the work. Then again I am impatient but I think just a few hours is a reasonable expected time. --73.120.xx.xxx |

My regulars are booked solid for weeks. People are spending money on their homes, and homes sales are thru the roof. Sellers need repairs and buyers want improvements.
This helped me understand - my Home Depot rep says HD is selling materials so fast they can't re-stock fast enough.
HD sold and entire year's suppply of treated wood in APril & May when the stimulus checks hit. Paint dept is selling way more than usual.
Staying home? Govt check? Build a deck and paint the house!
Son20,000 has developed a very profitable GC business and now refuses to do work for LLs - too cheap, too picky, too indecisive...

I know a great weatherization crew. Those guys climb in attics all summer - UGH
I contact them to see who wants to work on the weekend or at nights to do any kind of work I need.
I can supervise anyone to do any job I need done.
Today a guy is coming to do a 1.5 square walkable roof job - He was a prior roofer.
Another kid is coming to hang a basement ceiling - grunt labor supervised is as good as they get
It never surprises me what prior skills these guys have
PS I pay them a very good cash rate and they are covered through the owners ( my friend) Workers comp policy
They all love making MONEY $$$$$ - there are still kids like that in real America --24.62.xxx.xxx |

PS - If you aren't taking people out to lunch on a quarterly basis to make them your friend instead of a contractor you are not living life well
My broker, my insurance agent, My banker , My contractors and many others are all called quarterly to meet for lunch at the local diner for a lunch and a check in on life

Yes our local loyal contractor cant get to us for months. I asked him why so busy he said because everyone got their stimulus money?? That makes no sense. What are you going to do with $2400?? There is another side to it . They are busy, but they can’t find the help either. With everyone collecting the over the top unemployment- nobody wants to go work for these contractors. It’s been a huge problem for both residential and commercial construction.My day job puts me in the thick of it and we have had a help wanted add running for months. As soon as the extra $600.00 expired the applicants started flooding in. At the mere mention of the extra $400.00 they stopped again. --68.118.xxx.xx |
