Landlords said they feel stuck and abandoned because of California’s temporary eviction moratorium, which was put into place to help people who may be struggling to pay rent due the novel coronavirus outbreak and the resulting public health restrictions.

“We cannot exercise our rights in court,” said Diana Polyakov.

Diana and Michael Polyakov said they are at the mercy of the state’s eviction moratorium. They recently purchased their dream home in Granite Bay and temporarily rented it out. But they said now, the renters aren’t paying and aren’t leaving.

“School starts and my kids don't have a permanent house, right now," Diana Polyakov said. "So, I have chills. I'm going to start crying. I don't know what to do."

Her husband, Michael Polyakov, feels helpless. “We are currently $20,000 down from what we’re supposed to get for all these months that we didn’t receive the payments,” he said ...

This is an excellent WWYD question. Because there comes a point where hoping and begging and praying, pleading and protesting will not work.

I think it's safe to say that blue state governors have made it pretty clear at this point that they have no intentions of letting go of their lockdowns and moratoriums in the near future. My state is looking to shut down things into January.

Different aspects of society being shut down at five months at a clip at this point. It was only supposed to be two weeks, four months ago.

I do not espouse self-help remedies, but sometime soon, a LL is going to take extreme action against a deadbeat tenant who goads the LL too far.

Just like good citizens are getting arrested for brandishing firearms against "peaceful protestors" with their peaceful rocks and bombs and other devices of peaceful protest.

The problem is that the public will NOT react well to a story like what is posted above. They don't feel sympathy for someone who just bought their "dream home" that, apparently, rents for at least $4,000 (since they are already $20,000 behind and we've only been doing this since March/April).

The general public, many of whom are hurting during this time, are simply not going to side with the landlord renting a "dream home" for $4000+/month.

We do -- we get it, sure. But that story will go nowhere as far as the general public is concerned. Most of them will just go "that's what you get, you greedy landlord!!"

Not much of a chance when there are a lot more votes (tenants) than LL's.

I still think we could at least get some PR traction by picketing certain politicians and judges to use their big nice houses to take in a few families to "help" just a little with the problem. Since they want us to take all the problems with this dilemma, they should at least share a bit of them . maybe we could supply air mattresses for them

Who purchases their "Dream Home"

Until the elections are over in November you should expect the moratoriums to continue. What politician wants to lose tenant votes? As I mentioned before, the "Jake Strait Bogeyman" book series predicted this: In the future the USA is run by the socialist World Party and the LLs hire private enforcers to go into the "no go" no rent zones to try to reclaim their property . . . The politicians counted noses and threw the landlords under the bus . . . Was Bladerunner type science fiction 10 years ago; now not science fiction any more?

Does anyone remember the rent control in Brooklyn that had something like 1800 ll's abandoned their properties and the city took possession due to no taxes payed. The city had no way to manage them and were soon rat and roach filled, Dirty and the crime rate rose substantially.

Remember back in the old days when politicians had to buy votes with their own money? They wised up and figured out how to use other people's money (i.e. land lords).

Smart guys, helping the majority feeds off the minority without costing themselves a dime.

Investors in general are a minority, so I wonder how long before Roth IRAs and 401Ks start getting taxed? 10 years ago, I would have thought it would never happen, but these days.... ???
