Due to theft and other issues, I am about to have 5 Ubiquiti UniFi Bullet G3 cameras and the Cloud Key Gen2 Plus. I need to get internet at the property. One carrier says they offer a speed of 15 and possibly 25. The other carrier says they offer 35x5 or 200x20. This is all greek to me, like comparing apples to oranges and I can’t get answers from the camera company, security company, by reading data sheets, or google. Please share any knowledge you might have!

Whatever you do, don't get involved with Comcast. They up their speed for business by downgrading yours. Could not even get my email. --71.104.xx.xxx |

The first number or larger is download speed (the speed you can use to watch movies or surf the internet. Upload speed is anything YOU send from your computer like copying a file from your pc to the cloud.
The internet only needs to be fast enough to access one camera or the console on the Cloud Key. The cameras will send all their data to the Cloud Key device and that device is local, on the same network as the cameras. All of that will be in the property, you'll only need the internet to access the recording/console, or one of the cameras independently. Any high-speed internet connection will suffice. I'd just go with the cheapest. Upgrading speed is only flipping a switch at their office.
As far as carriers go? You'll hate them all. They're all horribly run and somewhat lacking. --108.69.xxx.xxx |

LOF - Comcast just called to see if I was ready to start and explained download and upload speeds. They of course told me Consolidated was using DSL And much slower and didn’t even bother to give me upload speeds which is what Comcast says is most important with the cameras. Changing speed although is flipping a switch will incur a $30 fee. I already hate them but not enough to back out of putting security cameras. It kills me that it would be half the price if I attached it to a unit # instead because it is the utility room, it will be commercial and twice the price. I briefly considered getting a large enough package to provide it to the building but really don’t want to be getting calls when it goes down or is slow. So based on what you said and Comcast, my thought is to try the 35x5 and then upgrade if necessary to 200x20.

With cameras, you would be concerned with upload speed because they'll be uploading data into their cloud server.
From what I read, 4 Mbps upload speed for each 4K 20 FPS Camera is recommended. With 5 cameras running concurrently, 20 Mbps should be your minimum required upload speed.
More or less would be required based on the resolution and frame speed of the camera.

Also, if its a vacant property you may wanna check out the Electronic Watchdog Barking Intruder Alarm on Amazon.
It's a motion activated alarm that senses motion through doors/windows and sounds like an aggressive dog. It would scare away any looky-loos. --73.177.xxx.xx |

Jason, it’s an occupied 8 unit building that is close to the downtown area and public transportation. Generally it is quiet but there was package theft a few years ago so we secured front and back doors. Most recently there had been backyard furniture walking away and an unlocked car gone through. Probably the person we have a no trespass order against but I am ready to bite the bullet, pay for the system and start supplying the police with footage. Police feel cameras and signs will put a stop to the issues. As I look back at the last few years I can come up with multiple times footage would have speeded up the process of removing someone, knowing who wasn’t moving cars for plowing, why the landscape company charged for 9 hours to trim about 7 bushes, graffiti, etc. We are not the hood but it should also prevent anyone with unscrupulous habits from wanting to live there. --73.17.xx.xxx |

You need to know the capability of the internet at the rental property and your specs with your
a) internet carrier at home
b) your cell phone carrier too.
Not only do you want the internet carrier at your rental property match you camera system's abilities, but on the receiving end, you want to see it live without distortion.
Get all of the information/data and consult with someone who can look at the big picture and is in this industry. --47.155.xx.xxx |

Here's a bigger question. Do you think having video will stop your problems? Will you or the cops be able to see the perps? I mean if you want to identify them from video that's going to be tough and the cops aren't going to be looking for these crooks. Just saying with all going on-- do you think a stolen chair is on their TO DO LIST?
As for the comment about "all the same" the new ATT commercial with the guy in the bath tub--- they should make it an indoor pool and put all the lying Internet people in one big pool.
I had a theft problem at one of my properties - TRIED to steal the copper tried to steal the ac. I put phoney camera's with cables in front and back where they could be seen immediately-- and all that stuff stopped. --99.103.xxx.xxx |

Just to echo what Jason said. If your cameras have enough resolution to catch someone at any distance you're going to need a big upload pipe for 5 cameras. It's just math, each camera at 1080p will need around 3 Mb/s.
200 mb down is more than enough to provide internet at the property, but sounds like a hassle for a non-tech person. --62.216.xxx.xxx |

MYOB, the chairs, no. I didn’t file a report but notified and asked them to step up patrols. The table walking away with the tenant chasing down the person getting video, yes. One call to the person with the no trespass order and they were told I stayed off property but sent my boyfriend to get the table. The unlocked vehicle, yes. They were going to pull footage from across the street. My belief is the person with the no trespass order has been targeting the building and will stop with cameras. The officers in our town and the next town over know and recognize the frequent flyers. One attends our local landlord meetings and used another landlord‘s ring doorbell footage to identify a drug deal gone wrong turned into a brawl right in view of the doorbell footage. Over the last 3 years between the 2 buildings I have had enough issues to get to know several of the officers. I guess we are lucky up here because our police do follow up. --73.17.xx.xxx |

Truly sorry to hear but have been there and done that also as most LL's here have experienced the same. Steal 800.00 AC unit for 5.00 of copper and 2.00 of aluminum. Copper out of a house-- what maybe 25.00 in copper but 2K in damages.
So yes I know. Just can't get patrols or worse can't keep the people locked up who are doing it. Our town now has a law requiring metal resellers to document who' selling them metal like copper and aluminum. It's been made a felony for seller and purchaser-- so that's dried up.
I did have a tenant's son locked up for stealing hanging plants from a neighbors house and hanging them at his place. Unfortunately the police arrested the tenants son-- but not the tenant who actually did it-- that tenant had moved out-- so they took the first teenager they came across. --99.103.xxx.xxx |

So, let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Ubiquiti. We use them almost exclusively with all of our clients as far as routers, switches, and especially Wireless Access Points. The only exception to that is their cameras. Can I ask why you've chosen Ubiquiti for these cameras? There are usually many other better choices.
Also, for those talking about the cameras uploading video the "the cloud", that generally isn't the case with this type of camera. They record to a local device (the "Cloud Key"). They don't send to the cloud normally. They'd only be sending data out when he is connecting to view it from the Cloud Key device.
As for bandwidth, these cameras can be set from about 1.5mbps to 6mbps. So, even with that 200x20 plan, you're looking at 20mbps upstream -- so, depending on the quality you set, it could support 3-5+ cameras.
But, again, that is if you were streamin them all at once -- which I wouldn't think would be done. This will be writing to a LOCAL, ON-SITE device -- so you'd likely only stream one camera at a time to watch those after the fact. In which case, you'd only need 1.5 to 6mbps depending on quality of video selected.

Have you purchased it yet? If not, I would consider other options.
Generally, for a security cam system for something like this, you may want something that off-loads the video to the cloud all the time. That way, if someone breaks in and STEALS/DESTROYS the camera system itself, you'll still have footage.
Again, Ubiquiti makes great hardware for almost everything EXCEPT cameras, in my opinion. They work, but just aren't the best solution for this situation. Heck, they aren't even a very cost effective solution either -- there are certainly better, cheaper answers. Aren't those Bullet G3 cameras like $150 each? Plus $200 for the Cloud Key. Plus drive space? Heck, you've gotta be over $1000 for this, right?

Internet Speed/Sec Camera (by John... [MI]) Posted on: Aug 7, 2020 8:33 AM Message:
What is your goal? Do you just want to be able to look for footage after something happens? Or do you want to monitor it in an ongoing basis (i.e. watch live feeds often)?
Do you have the NVR locked away so that no one could get to it if they did decide to break in? Criminals will see the cameras and find their recording device and purposely steal/destroy it.
Is the building already wired in some way? Or were you going to run new Ethernet cabling to each of these?

SL - I use on-site storage on my systems, like what your are proposing now that john explained. If you cannot lock your system up, it will be worthless when the perps destroy or take it. Physical security is step one for onsite storage. --65.129.xx.xx |
