Made it through the hurricane without much damage. The usual limbs down, flotsam and jetsom. The tidal surge did get under my house, but only about 6 inches. Sump pump handling that.
Not a lot of damage on Topsail Island.
I thought I was going to have to fight one neighbor that put his trash cans out Sunday evening. He "knows it all." I let him know that if that trash scattered and I had to pick it up, it would be loose at his front door the next time he comes. I put his trash can out today for him. They pick up on Wed. I have people ask me: "What day is the trash picked up." I told one: "You have been living here at least five years and you haven't figured that out yet."
I wonder how some people have made it this far.
Well, that's my rant for today. --70.158.xxx.xx |

Glad to hear you are okay! It went just west of us, I slept right through it. There was some sound-side flooding today well after the storm but nothing drastic near us - all tenants in low-lying areas had been warned to move their cars to higher grounds and they did. So all is well knock wood. --50.82.xxx.xxx |

Limb fell on a power line and snatched the meter base completely off the house. Just thankful because a tornado touched down and killed 2 people about 10 miles away in the same county. --99.150.xxx.xxx |

Sad for the deaths, glad everyone else made it through generally intact. Raining here, but sun trying to come out. --108.56.xxx.xx |

Neighbor's tree top came off and went into my yard. The rain was over and it was not much and a wind came up. Dogs barked and I looked out to see the back yard full of tree trunk. It could not have fallen better! I think my deceased dad guided this one down also. I knew this was going to happen but not when. So part of it is resting on the porch roof and bend the gutter. I estimate the trunk to be about a foot thick by the fence and I guess 20 plus feet long. Took out my security light, bent the fence open. I have found a guy who will cut it up and my lawn guy will take the wood. Still a piece hanging over garage. The other parts of it have to come down because they will later if I don't pay now. I don't think there is a thousand damage here to go past my deductible so I called the insurance company but then decided not to pursue. I really don't want anyone out here because my yard is a forest and I don't want them telling me to cut this or that. I am cutting all the smallest branches and putting them by the curb. I haven't heard from the tree guy yesterday or this morning so I may just text him my address again and the word CASH to see if that has an effect. But I'm good and I suppose others are in way more distress than I am. Down the street at the four plexes I used to own the giant old gumball tree that is out front fell completely down. It went right between the two buildings so power looks out and minor damage to sides of two adjacent buildings. I always worried about it but it was full of leaves so did not look bad. I see now it was hollow about three feet up. Sold it in 2013. --71.104.xx.xxx |
