Someone had posted a few months ago they were having trouble finding Allure at their HD... I'm starting to run into the same problem in my part of the world as well.

They normally keep at least 40-60 boxes of Country Pine on the shelf at any time, but when I went yesterday, it was "online order only" and the price was hiked up by 20-40 cents/sf or so.

I had recently done a house in cherry, so I picked up all they had of cherry (15 boxes) to do a house I needed to do a 300 sf'ish room. But if I needed to do a whole house, I would have been out of luck, unless I had the desire (and timeline) to special-order.

I noticed that there were three major bays on that aisle. The Allure was on one marked "water-resistant", and the next two bays were marked "waterproof". But I don't buy the flooring for being water-resistant or waterproof; I buy them for the durability to stand up against wear and tear of daily living, move-in, and move-out.

Is anyone starting to move into the more-easily-available types of flooring, and finding comparable results with their durability? Or are people shifting into special-order land, and hoping their flooring comes in in under 3 months... which was how long it took me to get my last thing special-order of flooring in. --70.158.xxx.xx

Allure has always been a bit of a niche item since only Home Depot carries it. I've got some floors going on 10+ years, and for the cost of $1.50-$1.75/ sq ft + $1.00 - $1.25 installed that's $3/sq ft or less going on 10 years.

Pretty. Darn. Good!

I haven't had to clean a carpet or worry about pet pee odors or stains for a decade. Wow!

Scuffed piece? Take it out and replace it. 10 minute job. Floor looks new again.

Applicants compliment my "hardwood floors" which gets me rented faster. I smile and respond, "They are nice floors, aren't they?" No need to tell all my secrets!

In short, if Allure is on the way out, I will bid it a fond farewell as I pick up the last few boxes in stock to add to my leftover boxes from past projects. Should be enough to keep my floors looking good for another decade. 20 years out of a floor covering is excellent! Even my few rentals with hardwoods have to be screened and buffed out every 5-10 years from the moving scuffs and pet claw tracks, so getting 2-4 times that lifespan out of Allure will have made it worthwhile.

When the time comes, I'll lay another floating floor over top of it if possible, or roll it up and go back to bare floor.

I've seen other "plank" flooring at Menards that is promising as a replacement. --107.216.xxx.xxx

This may be a supply chain problem. Hopefully that's all it is. --107.77.xxx.xxx

Deanna,

I noticed allure was disappearing from HD shelves by me a while back. I bought a bunch on clearance for 98 cents.

I did special order some at full price and it took about a month or more to come in. A couple boxes were damaged and they discounted them to half price. I didn't use one and will return it. But I wasn't about to not accept the damaged boxes with the same lot number and wait another unknown amount of time for the replacement boxes to arrive and sit around with an unfinished project.

Thant's why i posted the recent thread about costco/ flooring that hasn't gotten any traction. I believe LVP is the direction things are headed. Hopefully the price will drop below $3/sf.

Shoot even real hardwood might become an option to consider. --24.194.xxx.xxx

My local HD had cherry allure on sale for $ 1.50 per square foot a month ago. Seems to have plenty of supply in a few colors. There are other colors that have to be ordered however. Might be a local issue. --209.122.xx.xxx

China. Most everything comes from China.

They are shut down. (I wonder if govt paid factory workers get unemployment checks...)

Competitors have made a big push with lots of new vinyl plank products.

My fav is now driftwood grey. Momma LOVES it and gives it a big WOW!

Supply chain or they just aren’t going to carry it anymore. They don’t carry Minwax stains anymore. Not a supply problem, it is still sold at plenty of other places. They just don’t sell it now. --68.118.xxx.xx

Wander over to the HD lumber aisles. Alot of those bays are absolutely empty. In MA, it's almost impossible to build a deck due to the scarcity of pressure treated lumber.

My flooring person at HD shrugged when I mentioned Allure. They will stock 3 or so colors (cherry is one) and the display is in disarray.

Rents Due, Lowes got the minwax account. --24.194.xxx.xxx

I installed many rooms of Allure. It is a good product...but I've moved on (up?) to Smartcore. It's a better, albeit more expensive product. --173.233.xxx.xx
