Here comes Hurricane 2020 (by WMH [NC]) Posted on: Jul 31, 2020 4:37 PM
Message:

Of course. And early too. Our most destructive hurricanes have been in September, October. Now this one: August...but why not? It's 2020.

All I could do was send messages to tenants: "Move cars to higher ground." "Pick up yard projectiles." "Put away lawn furniture."

We all know the drill, but somehow I was hoping against hope not to deal with THIS as well as THAT - this year... --70.158.xxx.xx

Don't forget trampolines, batting cages, skate board ramps, potted plants in light containers, basketball hoops (the huge movable kind). In short, anything that a strong wind could pick up and throw into your house or your neighbor's house and pool. Amazing how strong the wind is. --72.199.xx.xxx

I will start tying trash and recycle cans down Sunday afternoon. I have figured out a way to tie down the lids also. I always open any doors that the water from tidal surge could go through. That gives the water a entrance and exit. Anything you want to keep be sure it is off the ground. I have my a/c system sitting 4 feet high. 5 ton water to air system. Generator is 4 feet off the gound. 11000 kw. Don't want to lose either.

Move lawnmowers to higher ground. Put a piece of duct tape over the ignition so the rain does not enter. Move vehicles to higher ground.

Above all, stay safe. I plan to stay at my residene. Leaving is not the problem, getting back home can be the problem. I do not want to go to a shelter.

I tell tenants "if you want to keep it, put it somewhere you think it will be safe." I do not listen to "my this that or the other is missing" you had plenty of time to stow it. --75.138.xxx.xxx

I'm with you WMH(NC) they do seem to be coming earlier and stronger each year.

I also tell tenants to fill bathtub(s) and washing machine with water. No, this water is Not for drinking. --173.31.xxx.xxx

I keep hearing odd pronunciations for this hurricane's name. It's I ZAY us. They keep saying Eye say ee ass around here. Must be an old fashioned way of saying it just off the boat. I hope the big jet stream dip keeps it off the coast a bit to give you folks some relief. Ask that the jet stream pushes farther eastward and keeps it off the coast. Remember what Jesus said "Ask and ye shall receive." --71.104.xx.xxx

We have a propane generator. DH fired it up yesterday and it works (yay.) Without power, no water, so the generator is crucial.

Still, I have a Water Bob for the tub: it's a huge plastic water bag that keeps the water clean & dust free and prevents it from slowly leaking away. Has a pump spout on the top for access. Cheap insurance.

We filled up on propane for both the generator and the grill. I will make some cold-brew coffee which can be heated up on the grill if necessary.

Bunch o' hard boiled eggs for quick protein. Otherwise not much prep. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Stay safe all those in the projected path. At least with hurricanes, you have warning and time to prep for them.

We live in Indiana, and those silly tornadoes do not give much warning!
