I am listening to a recorded local gov't conference call on facebook, governor and local mayors and community leaders to solicit donation to support "undocumented" illegal immigrants. Governor opened with a greeting in Spanish. I wonder if the California governor has to greet in Spanish and other languages whose immigrants populations are significant.

Then I saw a facebook comment, "we need the information in Spanish too".

The organization who is going to hand out money made it clear that minimal paperwork, nothing to worry about.. Imagine all the legal and illegal will apply for it. To be eligible, who doesn't get money from anywhere, RI resident, being affected by Covid 19.

Some listener was upset cos the gov't took money from citizens to illegals, some essential workers risk their lives, making $15 an hour. --96.253.xx.xx

Nice tomato paste with garlic flavoring. Great olive oil. Less burning taste in the Extra Virgin. They also have lots of cocoanut products which I have to figure out how to use. Hungarian cooking had no cocoanut recipes. --71.104.xx.xxx

Next week is a private campground with a water park so the kids can play with and make friends with others.

Then August 8th a private car and motorcycle show on private land for the community.

God I love living in the country! You're welcome to join!

Vive la resistance.

As I recall, when this country was first set up, 1776 or so, in order to vote you had to have "skin in the game" so to speak. I don't remember if it was pay taxes, be a landowner or both. But I do remember that it was set up so that those who did not contribute or who had no stake in the country had no say in things. This encouraged them to work and be a part of it.

Sadly, since then these requirements have been eliminated and now those who are the takers are at the point of just outvoting the producers and voting themselves more of our money and work.

More and more things are advanced as a human right, when they clearly are not. Soon almost everything will be a right: housing of choice (beachfront of course), food, medical, internet, phone, nice car, car repairs, gas, maid service, vacations at destination of choice, airplane rides, the best schooling, and much more.

The producers, of course, will be required to provide this free for the takers. --172.222.xx.xx

Richard: In 1776 or so, MEN who owned land could vote. This was NOT designed "so that those who did not contribute or who had no stake in the country had no say in things." It was designed so that slaves and women couldn't vote because they were considered inferior.

It wasn't designed to "encouraged [men] to work and be a part of it" -- it was designed to prevent certain groups from voting that they didn't want input from.

Sorry, but those slaves were likely working harder than 95% of the male landowners -- and they still had no way to vote. So, it wasn't for lack of WORK.

Heck, I can see an argument that people with "skin in the game" should be the ones to vote. But when things were designed to prevent certainly people from being ALLOWED to have any "skin in the game", then that whole argument falls apart pretty quickly.

Also on the topic of felons voting... If you are a convicted felon but have paid your debt to society you should be allowed to vote. What about tenants that steal by not paying their rent and living free on us? Shouldn't they go to jail?

It's not just about property ownership proving responsibility, it's about a person owning property which makes them care more about where the taxes they pay go and who they vote in to make that decision. Persons who don't own property will skew more toward those who give them freebies on the backs of property owners who do pay more taxes than a non-property owner. --174.55.xxx.xx

Yes, stereotypes often exist for a reason. But you're missing the point. Even if it is fairly common, it does mean that ALL people without property fall into some specific category and therefore should not be allowed to vote.

THAT is what I was referring to -- that being stereotypical here doesn't make sense. You can't punish everyone (i.e. remove their voting rights) because you feel that SOME of the people in a group (i.e. those who can't afford to buy property) -- even if it is the MAJORITY of people in that group -- meet some stereotypical attitude that you've come up with (i.e. "care less about where the taxes they pay go").

That's what is being said here. That you can't group them all together and suggest we take away their rights because you feel SOME of them are a certain way.

I should point out that you're doing the same thing by calling JAC a "democrat" or a "liberal." You're assuming that he thinks all of some very specific thing because he questions SOME views commonly held by "the other side."

We really need to stop seeing things as black-and-white only. We need to realize that some people don't fit into a little box of "Republican" or "Democrat" and that ALL of their views must be strongly in one side or the other.

This far-right/far-left stuff has done a lot of damage to our country. From "both sides." And anyone that takes any sort of middle-ground at all starts having someone "accuse" them of being of some group. :(

We, as a nation, have gotten so far away from listening for understanding, instead we seem to listen waiting for opportunities to take ‘pot shots.’

To all, I believe the comments about requiring landowning are made out of frustration at how politicians seem to be just offering ‘free stuff’ with no consideration for any of the effects on the economy, or to society in the long run. All the moratoriums on evictions for instance.

And, yes, I know it isn't the same -- but I was trying to point out that you using "democrat" and "liberal" as an insult (which is clearly what you were also doing) is also unfair and inappropriate.
