melanie,

Reason #432 Why I choose NO CARPET IN RENTALS. Holes and zippers.

Of course they did not report this. They are hoping you dismiss this damage as WEAR AND TEAR because EVERYBODY has to poke holes for cables.

We charge $50 per repair on carpet.

Bill this as REPAIR to avoid arguments about depreciation.

Some zippers in carpet can be repaired esp if it's not in the center of the room.

Carpet is only depreciated for seven years so it's only worth half of what you paid for it now. So I don't see how running cable along the edge of carpet would ruin the whole thing. Can you get some molding put over the edges? How is the middle? --173.61.xxx.xx

The cable co used a drill up thru thru carpet from under the house it caused the carpet to ravel and have loose yard so the vacuum will catch and cause more damage so no I can not add molding it is to far out in the room. I will not have carpet again. thanks for the answers --73.7.xx.xxx

The manager prolly missed this in the recent inspections so I would yell at them and see how much they want to pitch in fixing this problem, but carpet is so 1960's hardly any rent place has it except in remnant sized to fit just in certain places. How long ago was the cable installation that butchered the carpeting? That would have been time to get repair estimates so the tenant could recover from the cable team, this in general is also why I prewire my places room by room and staple the wires with labels onto a plywood above the water heater. --76.188.xxx.xx

Is this berber carpet? If not can a carpet guy patch that area with a piece from a closet or maybe you have a left over piece? If so i would charge them the cost of labor to fix. --99.203.xx.xxx
