Not sure if I posted this a year or two ago,..but maybe it might help someone this year,..

OK not for everybody but if you MUST work in very hot conditions, a trick that helps keep you cool for a short while but an be done frequently is what we have been doing at our job sites is simple but very helpful.

We get a tall container,..a deep kitchen garbage pail works well. We fill it with water and a bag of ice,, we plunge our hands up to our elbows into that water and count to ten,...or more . The arms act like a car radiator and the cool blood pumps around the body. You can feel this "cool" travel throughout your body. Now if its very hot,.you may have to do this frequently. 10-20 minutes. But it makes it tolerable,.

A few years ago we were trying to complete a rehab on one of our apt buildings during a long and very bad heat wave,..not much was getting done because guys were just dragging around and no one blamed them. After I set up 6 of these around the job site, (guys being guys at first didn't do it rt away but maybe splashed some water on their faces) but after a while they did the hand/arm plunge and MUCH More work was getting done. I would see guys going to the containers very often,..(moving fans around to blow air on the workers that could stay in one spot doing their work also were a great help but the Ice containers were the big hit.

We sometimes wear shemaghs, dump a bottle of ice water over your head the shemagh will cool and drip.

We also have special cooling towel things for around your neck. Straw hats or hats with neck flaps help too.

Watch for heat exhaustion in others. You can get dehydrated and go down very fast and into heat stroke.

Carry extra water. Even in town in the summer we never leave without a six pack cooler of ice water plus console water. We also keep 2 gal of water in the trunk or bed box.

My final tip for avoiding the heat...

Stay inside in the AC! :)

Enjoy a little taste of what we get for 9 months!

Just did this arms into the unauthorized pool trick Wednesday afternoon while replacing a compressor in the glaring sunshine, I felt like going into the pool with my clothes on while the unit was evacuating but the tenant came home early and let me sit in the back of his SUV with his family while they waited for the a/c to get going. --76.188.xxx.xx
