State Specific Question About: ILLINOIS (IL)

I have a self cleaning oven stove in one of my rentals. There are for burn marks on the top of the oven door . The oven was so dirty and here all they had to do was push a button to clean it. My question is how much do I charge for the burn marks on the oven door ? Never had this problem before. The stove and oven work fine but the burn marks show on the top of the oven door. --98.212.xxx.xx

Those burn marks may be the result of the cleaning and/or gasket condition...ovens get VERY hot when self-cleaning, and if the gasket does not seal well this could happen.

I'd start by looking at the gasket. If it has the rubber type gasket, this is a low-end unit and buy one with the braided gasket next time.

If it's the braided metal gasket, then check condition by inserting a 4" wide sheet of paper, closing the door, and pulling on the paper to see if it has some "friction". If not, you have a gasket or door alignment issue.

By doing the above, you'll be able to determine the cause. I don't see how this could be the tenant's fault, but then again I'm not able to see the marks so I could be wrong. --99.92.xxx.xxx

Good advice!

If the oven is dirty that means they used it. A loose door and a burned cake could leave a smoke trail.

The porcelain finish can handle aggressive cleaning.

At a point we just swap it out rather than fight a stain. Momma wants a nice clean range.

It all depends on what those burn marks are from. If it was from an oven malfunction, I would not charge. If it is a cleaning issue, just the cleaning fee. Maybe a clean cycle caused those marks, which is why they never used it again. --108.4.xxx.xx
