I am officially affected.

My phone battery died so I could NOT breeze thru MacDonalds by my usual procedure of ordering by phone and letting them bring it to my car like a king in 4 minutes while the un-digital-woke masses are still waiting to PLACE their order.

I had to get out of the car, walk across a hot parking lot, dodge crazy drivers, and stand in LINE to place my order! How goash! Then, to top it off, I had to sit and wait for my food inside WITHOUT A CELLPHONE to entertain me. I actually had to SIT AND DO NOTHING for 4 long, agonizing minutes.

I looked around and NO ONE ELSE was deprived of instant entertainment and distraction like me! They HAD phones comforting them. Why me! What have I done to deserve this punishment to sit quietly with my own thoughts for a whole 4 minutes!

I anxiously watched the order number display while others who had ordered AFTER me got their food. “Oh the humanity!”

Finally they called my number. I grabbed my little bag and zoomed to the car to end this humiliation and isolation as I checked my phone which was plugged into the cigarette lighter and recharging.

It finally had enough charge that I could check the news for what happened in the world while I was so painfully cut off, out of touch with the world for my 8 minutes in MacDonalds.

Whew!

Back to normal with phone in hand.

My hobby has me traveling in obscure places, and then being outdoors all day. My mapper drains my phone pretty hard, and my car charger doesn't always replenish the energy reliably.

I picked up a portable charger. It's been awesome. :) The one I got was an Anker PowerCore, but there are lots of different brands/sizes.

If your phone is dying even with a car charger-- you might look into getting one. Just in case, y'know, you don't want to be alone with your thoughts for too long. ;) (And let's not even talk about the trauma of lugging a book around with you and reading it while you eat!!!) :P --96.46.xxx.xx

I haven't eaten Mickey D's since I got a fish sandwich and there seemed to be a pill in it. Unfortunately I swallowed it and had terrible intestinal pain for days. I think someone was going to worm their dog and asked the burger flipper to put a pill in it. Sometimes dogs won't eat anything they think has a pill in it. The thought of Mickey D's moneky meat now is enough to kill my appetite. --173.61.xxx.xx

The last time I ate McDonald's was right after I gave birth. I was craving it sooooo bad while in labor. DH brought me a Big Mac. It was so awful tasting that it has been 25 plus years since I have even looked at a McDonalds. Although I do suspect it was a hormone issue messing with my taste buds...mentally it had a lasting affect. --174.255.xxx.xx

I hardly ever use my phone. I actually use it more now then I use to thanks to dealing with the rental and other property. I might use my phone 6hrs a month. I guess I am an introvert. I actually enjoy being to my self and thinking as I work. I am very hyperactive(probably ADHD, as if OCD wasn't bad enough)and am constantly moving and thinking. I don't usually eat out either. I use to deliver to restaurants.

I find it funny as you probably drove your porshe there. --73.120.xx.xxx

I take trips (not often enough!) to wilderness areas where phones don't work. And I intentionally leave my phone in the truck or even OFF.

Several years ago I did a 3 week trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. No phone or internet the entire time. It was wonderful!! --69.80.xx.xxx

I haven't been to MacD's in probably 15 years. My spouse insists I eat actual food. She won't let me go to the buffets either. We live across from 11 casinos and I haven't had a bowl of runny bread pudding in years. And yet I'm the one who gets sick all the time. Sigh. --47.216.xx.xxx

My phone is my Golf GPS and scorecard. 18 holes drains it down by 15th hole so I have to spend a few minutes before each round going from cart to cart to make sure I find one with working USB ports

Ah, "Rich People Problems."

You can buy an emergency usb charger as Deanna suggested. Many stow it away as a backup just in case, and it's small and just uses one AA battery.

For your next new car, you might confirm that it includes a USB port/charger that's connected to your car's stereo. You can also just keep a usb cord attached to the port so it'll be ready to charge your phone just in case. You could also replace your car stereo with a usb port too. --73.93.xx.xx

In parking lots, some people on their cell phones listening to music are oblivious to the world and often block others in. One person left his kids in their car with a grandparent blocking several cars in. I was one of those cars. After waiting 10 minutes, I used my come-a-long wench and moved the car out of my way. The other blocked in cars were amazed and wished they had my tools. --47.156.xx.xx

At one of my jobs, my phone is in my locker by choice. If family needs me, my job will page as my family knows where I am. At my FT job, I check it often and have finally gotten through to people that it is easier to text me than to call. I can't leave my area to check my VM often. I don't mind doing it once and awhile, but don't make me leave to check a VM that says "call me". I often leave without it or leave it in the car when I am at events. I give my family the warning that I will be unreachable for X amount of hours. I wear a Road ID so hopefully no one will need the info but if they the information is accessible if I can not give it. Yep-I don't need my phone 24/7. It is by the bedside due to wanting to be available for family emergencies. --73.230.xxx.xx

I am always amazed how long the drive thru line is for MD and taco bell. I don't eat that stuff (no judgment if you do) but I often wonder if it wouldn't be quicker to park and go inside. Think of it this way, you got your exercise. Recent study says people spend too much time connected and suggests putting the phone down and playing w a ball. --99.203.xx.xxx
