In my area unless it's an owner occupied SFD only licensed electricians can do electrical work. For insurance reason such as a potential claim down the road, I personally would want my electrician pull a permit & to also do this. That being said the last 2 upgrades that I had done cost me $2,250.00 & $2,800.00 respectively. They each included new wire in conduit from the weather head, 2 new exterior ground rods, new ground to the street side of the water meter, 200 amp Murray load center, all new breakers, permits, & inspections.

The $2,800.00 required using arc fault breakers as well as adding several new circuits for some renovations that were being done at the same time the new service was done.

Down here, a new 200amp box, breakers, wiring and ground rod would run around $1,800.00. If you want new Arc-Fault circuits run (120 or 240) that would be an additional charge. Arc-Fault breakers are expensive.

A new 200 amp breaker box and a total re-wire of a 1,200 square foot house can run $3 -$5 dollars per square ft. If the house is one level, the lower price would apply,...with multi-level or multi-plex,...the sky is the limit. --68.63.xxx.xxx

Have stalled the biggest ekectric box inside that you can. You'll never run out of space that way and when you sell... buyers love the dream! So much space, so little time! But oh the joy when you need to power something new! --99.203.xx.xx

I am currently in the middle of upgrading the electrical on a duplex. The work includes replacing a duplex meter base & grounding, upgrading both boxes to 200 amp, pulling feeder wires to both units, and misc. upgrading circuits (stove, water heater, dryer, window heat/AC).

The panel upgrades are $1,500 each and the other circuit upgrades are $1,800. All totaled under $5k. That does include permits, which only cost $150. --99.150.xxx.xxx
