Going through and getting started on the work for my newly acquired 2 unit and working on getting the plumbing sorted. The place sat empty for 3 years and they forgot to drain the boiler so water froze and 3 cast iron radiators burst. These aren't huge radiators; two are about 32 inches across and there's a small one about half that size. I'm getting a quote of $ 1800 to pull them and replace them similar. They'll also pressure test the system. This is in a second floor apartment, so these are a real pain but this strikes me as excessive. How much should I expect to spend for something like this?

My trash guy got me 8 radiators last year.. I couldn't sell them for 30 bucks a piece and eventually they scraped them. If you buy them on craigslist (make sure the size roughly fits), to replace them is shear elbow grease (or brute force, not easy).$1,800 is bit steep.. --68.227.xxx.xxx

Yeah, I think 1800 is a bit steep also. I might go for 750-1000 just to be rid of the headache. Think I'll keep shopping around. I'm on a tight time frame and would like to have this place rent ready by September 1. --209.122.xx.xxx

That's what I'd prefer Ken but unfortunately I can't get a C of O until this item is resolved along with a few others. --209.122.xx.xxx

Why not go to the scrap yard and look for ones without rust stains or ask some guys who bring stuff there to shop for your size. --76.188.xxx.xx

New rads are $600 to $800 last time I checked so the price you got isn't bad if they are new. Someone said only three are broken but is that true? --173.61.xxx.xx

There are two ways. First install some Slant Fin copper finned radiators. Slant fin has website. Next install radiant floor heat by using Uponor pex piping. Uponor has website. With copper finned radiators for rentals better to install commercial grade as domestic grade is easy to destroy.Pex only works with forced hot water not steam. --184.149.xx.xxx
